Most searchers do not doubt the dashed path on the treasure map matches the Green Mountain Trail, linking up with the Appalachian Trail, near Little Rock Pond, Vermont.

The question is ‘What is its purpose?’ Let’s take a look at the top 5 interpretations for the path matchup.

1) The Appalachian Footpath Treasure Box is There!

The box is hidden somewhere along that dashed path

There is support for this – but there are also some cons for this….  Because I want to dive deeper into those – I’ll be creating a separate post on the pros and cons in the coming weeks. (I’ll link it here once posted)

2) It’s  a location Clue!

The dashed path on the map was given to provide the ‘general area’ for the hidden AT Box.  It’s in Vermont, but not along that specific path.  It’s just in the area.

3) It’s just another Icon!

With the Appalachian Trail going through 14 states, searchers have considered different icons on the map could represent those different states.  For instance, the ‘tar heels’ (dark spots on heels of the footprints with Car North near’ represents North Carolina and the possible ‘wisp of smoke’ is to represent Smoky Mountains or Tennessee.  The matched path – most of it being the Green Mountain Trail – represents Vermont.  Other icons can match other states on the trail.

4) It’s to Orientate the Map Correctly!

The map in the book needs turned for the Matched Path to match…. So it was placed as not only an icon, maybe more – but to help orientate the map correctly. If the path wasn’t found, we’d be looking at the map wrong.

5) It’s a Directional Clue!

This is one I starting thinking more about recently.  If you ‘begin here’ and follow the dashed path – you’d be heading South again.

Does this path then say it’s SOUTH of the Green Mountains.  With ‘High Point’ on the map – it could be saying look between High Point NJ and Vermont – or something of that nature.

And a bonus one – which I want to dive deeper on as well is….

6) It’s 56 Dashes! That’s the Clue

There are actually a few options for the meaning to the Dashes!    So be on the lookout for that upcoming post as well…
