Don’t we all love surprises? Well, below are Random/Surprise Words from Forrest Fenn:
Don’t look for a trick or subterfuge from me, because there aren’t any. f
Best of luck with all that seek! And as always Treasure the Adventure!
To note:
Previous surprise/random words can be found here:
Surprise Words from Forrest (in connection to the Thrill of the Chase Treasure Hunt). These links can be obtained via the top menu dropdown of Forrest Fenn’s Treasure Hunt as well.
Plus click on: WEEKLY WORDS for a quick rundown list of past weekly words. Again, this link is included in dropdown.
For those new to the Thrill of the Chase treasure hunt, Forrest had given a list of words to share each week. These are the Weekly Words. I had posted them each Friday, first on Facebook, and then here on the site.
Surprise and random words are ‘words’ from Forrest Fenn given to me to share to all searchers, and I never know when he might send them to me to post.
As many searchers know, Forrest does respond periodically to private emails, but the above ‘Words’ and ‘Featured Questions’ are a way we all can hear from Forrest and share in this fun together.
Thank you for all being here! You all make The Thrill of the Chase treasure hunt such fun!
I know there aren’t any.
Thanks Jenny & Forrest for being straightforward.
I agree with Jake. Thanks y’all!
Nice site Jenny thanks,
One thought to consider is he addressing people by saying look, it is your interpretations that get people in you trouble with their solves. He constantly reminds us “don’t go where an 80 year couldn’t walk” one keyword is obviously walk. I’m guessing he is saying this because some jump to wrong conclusions and take unnessary risks.
What can be done? We can as a community advise everyone to go find the common sense first as hint #1.
It’s still fun to look, though. 😉
Forrest, you are a walking dichotomy.
L—-, L—- pants on fire. Tell the truth or face the ire.

I think a valuable tool for any understanding is for people to decide for themselves if a statement is conditionally true or conditionally false. And of course what conditions the conditions are in. Most people only hear what they want to hear. Any confirmation bias is not a good trait in ourselves or in society and definetly not in political news.
The answer is Lace.

Sounds like whoever has been letting others ‘catsup’ should act soon. Forrest is a good man, and there are clearly many layers to his poem. Don’t confuse peeling back a layer with subterfuge.
Remember, if you think your solve is ‘so darn perfect’, there are lots of other smart people that are also heavily invested, and they literally love coming up with solves as well.
Anyway, I can’t wait for my first dry-fly trip of the season, maybe I’ll have time to sneak in a Fenn quest while I’m out west. Best of luck to all!
you will catch more fish if you fish it wet, just below the surface
Now, how many out there still thinks f doesn’t read these sites ?
For those who are currently accusing Forrest of being a fraud and a liar, whatcha say now ?
The floor is yours, say what’s on your mind.
Gosh, is this what others have been saying recently, and for the reason for these “Random Words”?
I believe he’s saying don’t look to him to achieve ones goal or to try to trick him into it, because there aren’t any. Or maybe not!
All I can say is – Look At ALL of Those Gold Stars!!! Someone just won the Jackpot! Surprise!!! JDA
I believe it may be Jenny’s choice, not Mr. Fenn’s.
Here we go again.
You might be right – Thanks for reminding me. JDA
?
Everyone loves surprises. Well, unless you’re in the shower or something.
And you’re Janet Leigh.
What a ‘treat’
Really though… I smell a bluffer….
It’s not really our fault. It’s the thrill of the chase! We’re all victims of our fictions. You ever read a book where a treasure was hidden by a nice elderly gentleman? Heck no! We’re expecting Belloq. We’re prepped for pirates, outlaws, shady characters hiding stolen loot from bank vaults. Nazis. Booby traps. Rolling boulders. When we open that chest, we’re half expecting our faces to melt off.
That right there’s funny.
True that, Jeremy.
Just because there aren’t any tricks…or subterfugees…whatever that means…doesn’t mean that opening the chest won’t unleash “mass hysteria” of “biblical proportions”.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3ZOKDmorj0
That’s why I am prepared…(Boy Scout Motto)…to wrap my entire body with woven basalt fiber tape BEFORE opening the Treasure Chest.

This should afford me a nice, protective layer against any would-be…face-melting…flying entities which might be unleashed at an opening ceremony…should I be so lucky.
But dogs and cats living together…as a result…would be a nice change. 🙂
Thank You, Forrest and Jenny…for the surprise!
(Now to find a change of underwear. I don’t handle surprises very well.)

Yes. And it leaves a U and an R left.
So ff says:
“Don’t look for a trick or subterfuge from me, because there aren’t any. f”
“UR?”
😀
Thank you Forrest and Jenny.
No shortcuts?
Maybe?
aren’t any or isn’t one ?
Twinkle, twinkle little stars…
There never has been any trickery or subterfuge from Forrest and anybody that thinks that should re evaluate and think about getting to know the man! Thanks for the surprise words Forrest.
There seems to be a missing “you.” (See the “Best of luck” line.)
Everyone loves a surprise. Thank you Jenny and Mr. Fenn.
I guess it’s either, neither or both
Yeah I already moved it and found what’s behind.
He forgot to put the word ‘more’ before the period. LoL
Just like he says TREASURE THE ADVENTURE. Adventure is all you have from a antique dealer, with a book on his adventures.
When I get back to looking around 5/1 my friend says to start with the Continental divide because some of the numbers fit and so does one other clue. Hope to meet and make friends on the trail.
B.
I love surprises. Thanks for dropping by to say hello Forrest & Jenny.
This sounds straight “for”ward and I believe Mr fenn is a southern gentleman who keeps his word. I also believe he’s an excellent poker player and quick study of human behavior. He must enjoy reading our varied responses evaluating his meanings. Here’s a funny one for you for…when you arrive at me, wherever that is 🙂 don’t dig, it’s not sub terf. Ya, I know you’re thinking I’m out to lunch. No worries, I always search a beautiful area so I’m not disappointed. Isn’t that the point to Adventure!
Waiting impatiently for June. June for June Fenn. 😄
No trickery or subterfuge in sight. Thanks again Jenny and Forrest.
June 30th? If you hold fast to this because of what is posted, you may delve deeper and discover that there exists a document where the slight difference in placement of a seemingly insignificantword makes a favorable difference. Or
If your horses are being held to be at the right spot for some planetary alignment unique to a particular day in june, perhaps the 24 is more the operable dayte?
Or, wait, the 20th?
Grrrr.
if one takes the time to pay actual attention to most distractions, it becomes…(off topic)
All once upon an opine…
Good to know. Very upcast. Thanks Mr Fenn. 🙂
There are two contractions in the Flyers sentence, which cause missing “OO” within the contractions, with a reference to look. I thinking eyes. I glanced through TTOTC this evening and I saw a lot of references to eyes tonight. The words I and eye can be read backwards and forwards, without any change.
Very nice, Mike.
Remember, these are hints if they are accurate. Hints meaning that they fit in a more reminiscent way than a direct way.
I think you’ve got a good noggin goin’ on there, sir.
Good eye, Mike…
…and might I add…Eye Eye, Cap’n.

SomeOne has to keep a Lookout for these kinds of Details.
Eye sure won’t hold it against you.
Thanks guys. This also brings us to Ojo… which brings us to Fenn’s swimming hole. If you are in Yellowstone, draw a circle with ojo Caliente in the middle with a 10 mile radius and you are in the Treasure Zone. 🙂
You will find no mildew in the chest. Study mildew. Study the PH of the water in the Firehole River. Then you will find yourself drawing a different picture.
When you look at geysers from a distance you see smoke. It reminds me of a blaze…
But if I saw a fire in a hole (firehole) I might see a blaze too…
Nice, Anna-
I’m looking to team up with anyone that has followed their solve to this point.
I’m a few steps ahead of this location, let’s call this spot a quiescent well for code. I know we’ve got to be on the right track for at least a portion of it, but quite frankly I think you’ll soon realize it only gets harder from here.
Respond below if interested. Best of luck!
I might as well start asking questions. I am sure there a few who like to ask me questions as well. Okie Dokie now.
So what state are you looking in? I like Colorado because I live there.
I like Colorado because it is beautiful and cooler – I need a cold front sent my way. I will enjoy Colorado this year and who knows . . .
The winters can make it difficult to search. Unless one can follow the right path, at the end of the day, all will be good.
That’s not a good reason to… oh, I see what you did there.
“Do not tell secrets to those whose faith and silence you have not already tested” ~Elizabeth I
Fair enough, just looking to start anew with a full deck…
A fresh deck is always the echo of player who has experienced a pause in the action.
No doubt, but I also possess something existential that no one else can obtain, so I’ll just say:
‘You want me on that wall, you need me on that wall.’
I’m curious to hear what you’re talking about, Indy.
You sound formidable. I can’t say that I am…but if I was…and we were to team up…we’d be…like…a Basket of Formidables. 🙂
However, I’m not willing to share my solve with anyone I don’t personally know. The only thing I will share is that I’m looking in New Mexico. That’s the most I’ll share and I feel I’m being very generous at that. I also know that Forrest said that searchers were within 500 feet long before I ever started this Treasure Hunt…so that’s not very comforting.
One thing I have learned on this Journey is…
…you can tell a Lot about a person by their taste in Art. You know…what they put on their wall.
I’m jealous of this guy’s collection. :/

Indy — ‘You want me on that wall, you need me on that wall.’
Not necessarily, although it’s probably a good place for you.
Does anybody know if and where forrest said that he made two trips in one afternoon, one with the chest and one with the contents? I dont believe this to be an accurate disection of why two trips were required. In most reference made to where one should and should not search forrest has clearly stated that he footed a backpack of 42lbs plus. Any thoughts on what the first trip entailed?
Likely the second was 42lbs
Ron, I was sure that it was here at Jenny’s site. I looked but I didn’t find it. Maybe I just missed it.
I’m pretty sure that ff didn’t say why he took two trips, just that he made two and in one afternoon.
Ron; http//Lummifilm.com/AUDIO/kvsf2015.mp3 @23:44 5/29/2015 says “It was heavy enough that I made two trips to hide it. I took the gold in one time and then I took the Treasure Chest in the second time.” Hope this helps – JDA
I just noticed thick on accident and do not think by any means it means anything, but if you tip your phone so your looking at a steep angle up (or down) you suddenly notice that all matching stars (by shape and color) innthe picture Jenny added are grouped it perfect vertical lines.
No help with the poem, I know. But still interesting commentary on things hidden in plain sight. (No i want dissecting the pic I just happened to be lying down with my phone on my belly and noticed it) kinda neat I guess
^I swears I can spellz reel gode. Sry
Falling stars:)
There has Never been any doubt in my mind, Sir! Thank you Mr. Fenn and Ms. Kile, for the Surprise!
In the Thrill of the Chase, Forrest describes how his friend Eric Sloane was born in 1905 but let on that he was born in 1910, hoping that “his friends would forgive him that foolish prank”.
A 2015 interview with Forrest noted that, “You have said some things in scrapbook entries that seem too bizarre to be true, like the fact that you keep your jeans on when you shower. Are you at times just pulling people’s legs?” He replied, “Yes, I didn’t think that comment would fool many people. I was trying to make a point.” I could point to some other places where Forrest may be pulling some people’s legs as well, but I don’t think they’d be that surprising. Forrest is a fun guy, and I think most reasonable people accept, and enjoy, good-natured put-ons of this sort.
There’s other quotes and examples of little things that might meet a technical definition of “trick” or even “subterfuge”, but not really, not like it’s written here. Taken together, in this context, those words mean “mean-spirited”. It’s a distinction I think it’s important to make. You won’t find anything mean-spirited in the Chase, not from Forrest’s end.
I don’t know what prompted Forrest to say this out of the blue, but if someone out there really thinks that Forrest is being mean-spirited in some way, they aren’t thinking very clearly. If you happen to think this about a guy who literally left a pile of gold for you to find, I encourage you to simply stop participating in the treasure hunt, stop reading web sites, put away your electronic devices, go outside, and take a walk in the sunshine. Fortuitously, this is all that Forrest is trying to “trick” you into doing as well. If you happen to stumble upon a small bronze box while you’re out there, please let me know.
If you think you’re somehow special, clever, or a genius in “discovering” that Forrest’s treasure is a hoax, that he is lying, that he’s trying to get one over on people, or whatever — my friend, you are completely ordinary. That is what all the cynical people out there, living ordinary lives, in the ordinary boring world, thinks as well. You’re a 999-thousand in a million. You get up every g–d–n day and lead an ordinary boring life. Congrats to you, sir, or madam.
But if you have heart to take a chance, in good faith, on something more, I’ve got this poem you should read.
Very nicely said my friend. JDA
I concur.
Good points, Jeremy P.
Thank you Jeremy—very well said.
I feel exactly the same way, Jeremy P. That last part “But if you have heart to take a chance, in good faith, on something more, I’ve got this poem you should read.” If I’ve said that once, I’ve said it a million times and all I get are blank faces. It’s enough to make one person think maybe they ARE crazy, but when I check in and read the comments here and at Dal’s I know I’m not alone. 🙂
I always thought that statement too simple and profound….’it is what it is’. Come to discover as jeremy assists….’it is what it not really isnt’.
Sign of the times i reckon.
i think its cute that you bounce to forrests’ defense, however.**

Hello Rick Ricker. I’m a little confused by your comment and I’m hoping you’ll be able to explain it to me a bit clearer, please. Do you believe all of this is a fraud?
Not really following either, Ron.
On haters and non believers, Maybe we could reach out to others and help them learn to embrace thoughtfulness. We shouldn’t tell them to believe or not believe. We can only say as a responsible community: Think for yourself. Don’t take foolish chances on something you may not really understand; use your head instead.
Well said Jeremy P.
It’s not that hard to find the poster whom I think this might have been directed at.
That person has been claiming it’s a hoax for months.
I just keep wondering if this isn’t about something entirely different. A hint to the quest rather then anything about searchers.
ff just doesn’t strike me as a person who’d be all that worried about what someone thinks. The only time he’s broken away from the quest was when people were going too far with risky searches and something had to be said.
I just can’t see him worried about some negative talk when that’s par for the course, and he’s been around long enough to know that.
I do have a loose idea about this as a hint, and I’ve even seen a post or two over the year I’ve been around related to that.
Or maybe someone posted something else, and he’s letting out a hint on that.
I am a flumm ox sometimes though.
Good observation BB. Mr Fenn is probably referring to someone that thinks they have a solve, but wondering if there is a surprise turn that takes things in another direction near the end of the journey. He is saying not to worry, there is no surprise twist at the end. And that’s a good thing.
I believe there was a interview with Forrest about the Pueblo Indians and the land he owns in New Mexico, just the way he he said something or just the way he was acting when he mentioned the way he feels while walking over the top of ttheir homes along with saying he’s only dug up one % of his property, not sure how many acres but, just saying I believe the title to that property is one of the idems in the chest. If anyone finds the chest they would be in touch with Forrest to claim their land. That’s how he knows the treasure chest is still out there. One more thing, Eric Sloane’s duddles that Fenn collected on the paper placemats would be the other. Just thinking out loud, wait did I just say that out loud?
Didn’t he sell the land?
We are only looking on/at the surface of his words. We need to look deeper. I see an Epic poem (look that up) because it is a tattoo on my subconscience. Hidden in plain sight, yet also buried. Quite the masterpiece.
Forrest, I believe, has planned everything; he has done all the worrying, red tape, legalities and such. We’re just supposed to have fun and breath in life.
I hear ya, Inohury.
No matter what the subject…there is always deeper.

Rev 21:5 He who sat on the throne said, “Behold I will make All things NEW.”
I agree with you Inohury, I am sure that Forrest has thought of everything.
Your first words – “We are only looking at the surface words…” says a lot. I am sure that we all must look much, much deeper into Forrest’s meanings if we are to find the hidden treasure.
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts with us Inohury. JDA
Thank you, and others’ here, as well. Many in the Chase have good heart (s).
A very lively chat. I think Forrest is telling us we need to read the poem and you will see my words are straightforward and spoken with respect and kindness. As some have already noted Forrest as mean spirited is not likely. Look how he treats all of all us searchers he hasn’t given up on us yet. He is kind and communicates and even takes the time to meet with strangers and do fennboree at 86. As for some people… let them speak freely of their suspicions of some type of nefarious intent. Perhaps we do not understand their thoughts or their theories or solves. We can all tell them it to them straight right here.
As some have thought before; I also think Fenns statement my daughter’s are 50 and don’t know Clark Gable is very important and shows his true intent for the poem. The wisdom conveyed is highly significant to me, I think in those words Forrest tell us it is important to know about others in the world. When his children were young Clark Gable was not really considered cool or a current popstar or movie star it is highly likely his children didn’t knew who he was. I think Forrest is addressing us saying don’t be embarrassed or feel shamed to have an interest in a person or anything that is not deemed cool or socially acceptable. We could all learn to push past our boundaries and act on higher principles than morays and our image. Perhaps we can all learn to connect deeper with new people and our own lost family members. Giving us a contentment and a deeper awareness of our own lives.
The poem tells me to increase your knowledge and you will see the world not as ambiguous but as confirmation of family being the most important treasure and ultimately the memories we make with them. While all of us are out seeking our own solutions we connect deeper with our own friends and families. So all ffamily members if your listening Hi!
-perhaps we can all learn by example and communicate better and connect as we learn to make inroads through the our own Rockies-
Thanks for your kindness, generosity, and wisdom Forrest- (if your listening).

Just curious as to what state you believe it is within?
Wytanarado. One of those 3.
I like the middle part! 🙂 Happy Hunting… “Never Stop Searching”. f
That’s funny, TrailThumper.
I like searching in New Mont Coloming. I feel like it’s in there…somewhere. 🙂
It’s gotta be. I’m pretty sure. :/
Ok. Maybe not sure…and definitely not pretty.
Notice to all : it is going to be a tamilian, from the land of siddhars, to retrieve the fenn ‘s treasure chest very shortly.
What state? Do you plan to scale any walls?
Thanks,

I go to the county Clerks Office and say ” can you tell me who owns T_,R_,S_? Clerk: sure let me look on the computer, hmmm nobody. Come in here and we will look in the book. Hmm that’s strange. Let’s look in the index. Grabs another book, hmm vacant, that’s strange. She grabs another book, hmmm nothing. Maybe go ask the revenue office and see if someone is paying taxes on it.
Me: Alice, is that you?
CMR.. Is that the story where Alice was played by Forrest’s friend Suzanne Summers — aka Chrissy Snow?
I think Suzanne’s success in the industry was her comical precision and timing.
What if there is no legal question? The truth is stranger than fiction.
I think her success was in her ability to snort when she laughs😏
oops.. I meant comedial success (me: snorting my lines).
It’s difficult for me to sit around and watch old sit-coms these days…. but now that you mention it, I think Alice and the A-Team had good premises. I’m guessing you’d like Family Ties starring our favorite little hotty – Justine Bateman.
It’s early in the AM here, brain is still cold and foggy… maybe get to me in the PM, but not too late.

I’m not sure where to post this but I thought I would share it with you. You can shove it around if you want. This is an (as yet) Unfinished Poem I thought out on my way home yesterday about the fragilities of the West. I arrived at my computer to find (over at Dal’s) Passages Two to read and enjoy a different kind of Poetica:
Iambic Pentameter on a Planet Insolvent
by Brad Hartliep, March 22, 2017
I.P. addresses podium’s impress
As trees glade dry and papers bare nothing
But pupil’d waste from desert blooms turned down,
Of death, into dusty shards of Cactus Skulls.
The High Desert Broom turns a Crimson Facade
Of Three Cistren’s Boom. Sun-Melt-in-a-Sun-Belt
Foams Great Sky black-with-al, clouding Paled Scrub
Gone John Blind with Muire Curie’s Retrograde.
Gloom scatters into microscopic bulbs
Falling, in harm’s way, onto life-less Sands.
And Gulf Turns Die in Liquid In Solvent —
From a Drum Entitled: Missus I.P.P.I.

Or you could not spend so much time on the actual measurement and just go straight to the rabbit hole.
JL — How would you go about doing that?
It is complicated and only a theory at this point, I will let you know after I dust it off.
Turkey staring June Bug in the face:
40 lb Turkey = 42 lb Bronze Beauty
Turkey = (late) November
June Bug = June Fenn = June
Don’t search between (late) November and (early) June ..

Brad, maybe cougar cubs keep winter company, or snakes enjoy summer company with indulgence.
That fact alone is enough to keep me in the game. I know you’re a man of your word and I am counting on that. Thank you for being true blue Forrest.
