The Vault 2: Treasure & Faries has been released!!! $1000 in cash prizes – and lots of other treasures to claim! Now available on Amazon! Join the adventures! (for those who enjoyed VAULT 1 – there is also a solution section for Vault 1 inside Vault 2)

The Vault is a collection of original puzzle hunts crafted by a talented group of creators, each bringing their own imagination, logic, and storytelling style to the chase. Every hunt is self-contained, with its own clues, and hidden solution. Some may seem straightforward; others will send you spiraling through layers of codes, patterns, and meaning. But all share one thing in common—a genuine love for puzzles that challenge how you think and invite you to see the world a little differently.

Over the last week or so I have been chatting with the clever creators! Here is the sixth in this Six Questions Series (Other Six Q’s here)

Six Questions with Lindsay Outten:

  • Q1) What first sparked your interest in puzzles or treasure hunts?

Ever since I was a kid, I have loved anything mystery and/or treasure related. Scooby Doo was always a favorite show, and I loved those Encyclopedia Brown mystery books! I’m a Scorpio, so I have an ever-present need to figure stuff out. LOL! I started Geocaching with my family in 2014, but it wasn’t until 2021 that I discovered there are active, present-day treasure hunts. We dove into The Secret first (the Charleston puzzle is our favorite!), and have since discovered that there are more hunts out there than we ever could have imagined!

  • Q2) What advice would you give someone who is first getting into the hobby of puzzle hunts?

Have fun! I know that sounds obvious, but I think some people get so laser-focused on being the “winner” that they lose out on the magic along the way. The real treasure is not something you dig up out of the ground – it’s the joy of the experience.

  • Q3) What do you enjoy most in the treasure hunting hobby?

I really enjoy making new friends! I have met so many cool people since I started joining online puzzle and treasure hunting groups. It’s fun to chat with others about their ideas, hear new perspectives, and learn more about puzzle-solving from people who love it as much as I do.

  • Q4) When you start designing a new puzzle, where do you begin—story, solution, or structure? How do you balance making a puzzle challenging yet fair?

This is actually the first puzzle I have ever created by myself! I co-created with the amazing Maureen Conners for the original Vault book. For this puzzle, I started with the solution. Then I created a story around it that contains all the clues someone will need to solve it. To make it challenging yet fair, I included several different types of puzzles with varied difficulty levels. Hopefully, it will be fun for beginners and pros alike!

  • Q5) Please share a quick peek into your particular puzzle in THE VAULT 2! How would you describe it?

My puzzle is called On the Trail. It’s a story about being open-hearted and agile-minded, embracing the wonder and beauty of the world around us, and solving the clues so you can have tea with the fairies!

  • Q6) What do you hope solvers take away from your puzzle beyond just the answer? Do you have other puzzles or a social channel to follow?

I hope most of all that the puzzle will bring people joy! And I also hope it gives them the sense that there is magic all around us if we are open to seeing it. I look forward to creating more puzzles in the future!
