I had the pleasure of chatting with Chad Bird – creator of the hunt TREZOR QUEST. This quest is not only a hunt but includes other games and side quests! It’s a blast – let’s learn more!

Six Questions with Chad on Trezor Quest Treasure Hunt:

  • 1Q) Congrats on continuing the chase via your hunt! What are your most treasured moments in the search for Forrest Fenn’s treasure? Are these what inspired you to create a hunt of your own?

Most treasured moments fall into a couple of arenas.  One, getting to grow with AGK and then Mike and our favorite Sidekick.  Also, hanging with the wife trying to figure out home of Brown.

Then one day thinking we cracked the code and we told the boys we were loading up on a jet plane in a few hours to go hunt for treasure.  Good times!  As to what made me wanna hide treasure, that goes way back to childhood.  There was this house on Cope Dr. that had a “55” made in the brick.  I always thought to myself it would be really cool to hide something there underneath it.

As you will learn, most of my childhood was spent in a lot of alone time and boy did I ever so have an imagination!  So, in reality, I have been practicing how to hide things for a long time.  It was just that up until this last leg of my life, I finally have something worth hiding!  Forrest definitely sparked in me that young boy who wanted to make someone an explorer.

  • 2Q) The website opens on 9/15/25 on your birthday!  (Happy Birthday!) On the site is a poem – a riddle of sorts. Although you have said it is vague – is it possible the treasure can be found by following the poem ALONE? Nothing more is needed?

Yes, the riddles will be mostly all people have to go off of.  Ultimately, I have designed the hunt so that it has a approximate sunset date.  But that will only be available to those who collect all 5 keys over the next 15 years.  I would encourage ppl not to share the keys once they have them.  But, they are free to do whatever they’d like.

  • 3Q) You mention 5 keys – and releasing one after 5 years, then 4, 3, 2, and 1. Please explain what these keys go to. Or can you explain that aspect of the hunt more. Are the keys needed?

Shamir’s Secret Sharing (SSS) with a threshold of 5.  So a person would need all 5 keys to easily decrypt the 5 primary clues that anyone with the riddle can then go easily track down the trove.  The website will contain the key(s) release dates and how long each key will be up for searchers to grab.  Once all five keys are in hand, it is a near certainty of greater than 99.99% that they will be able to triangulate the trove’s resting place.

  • 4Q) Is what hidden a thumbdrive of sorts? How is the treasure protected from the elements? What are searchers exactly looking for?

With much diligence, the trove is safely guarded from all the elements.  A rock.

  • 5Q) The treasure consists of 15,000 crypto coins – and while you can’t provide a total value because of legal reasons – can you share at least how many full Bitcoins are in the wallet? 1? Less than 5? Less than 10?  Or more?

The trove contains many projects that have changed the world already. Anyone who knows me, knows I am a purest with regard to cryptographic projects.  There are ZERO meme coins in the trove, as these can never build wealth and will IMO be illegal before too long.  Because when Congress passes Clarity and with the Genisus Act now law, many fuex-coins will no longer be able to exist due to the coming regulations.

I have been an advocate for that part of crypto to die, not once have I ever owned a single meme coin. Because to me they are the enemy to the space and our growth into Web3, as they are nothing but pump and dump schemes that steal people’s ability to grow wealth.  Meme coins are not even built with their own protocols, they are a fad and poop smeer on the history of our future.  So, the finder will be pleased with themselves, I am certain of this.

  • 6Q) I love the fact you are following in Forrest Fenn’s footsteps and encouraging families to get out and explore. Forrest was engaged with the community of hunters. Do you plan to be? What do you hope searchers experience or get most from your hunt?

One of my primary goals with this hunt, was to see someone bringing it more full circle with the how and why Forrest did what he did.  So, I designed this to be a non-monetized hunt, much in the way I believe Forrest wanted his to be.

There is no “all you have to do is buy my book”; its just a pure and simple free for all to go find pieces of someone they too treasure.  When Forrest placed his physical treasures into that box, he most likely took time to remember the who, what, where, when and why he came into possession of it all.  Then he said his goodbye to it all forever.

I too have my own stories of how I came into possession of the things I am giving away.  Honestly, I cried a little thinking about how many times I was so pumped to be a part of history in a way not many people I knew were.  There is no doubt the trove will be very hard to find, but unlike Forrest, I do not want it to be out there for 1000 years; I’d rather it just be 15.

My hope for people is they get to know about a boy who was designed by God to be an overcomer and that everyone has their own design. Their own key if you will. All they need to do to truly be happy is decrypt it.  No amount of treasure is greater than them knowing who they are.  I will be elated for the finder.  But, I will also be grateful for the coming years of trying to more publicly spread love.

Cheers,

Chad Bird
