  1. Thanks Jenny and Mr. Fenn. One of my worries is that, if I find it, I won’t be able to look for it anymore. Kinda like the Jeff Foxworthy bit. “I hate it when people say it was in “the last place I looked”. Of course it was. Everything you’re looking for is in the last place you looked. Cuz if you find it and then keep looking for it, well that’s just crazy.

  2. One meaning of “worry”:
“to subject to persistent or nagging attention or effort”

It’s a proper thing to say that “we worry over the poem”, in an old fashioed way. Meaning we toil over it to figure it out.
And a dog “worries the bone” is another form of this.

With that in mind for the poem, maybe the direction of the sunset has meaning somehow.

  3. I love the picture……. There is a golden serenity in watching sunsets, a time for reflection of the day events and a chance to dream about tomorrow. It is also the perfect time to give thanks to all the great things in life.
    Thank You, Jenny and Forrest

  4. Thanks all. The image is taken from my parent’s property. I live close by and go jogging almost every night by there. The one evening I was able to take this photo over the summer.

From where this was taken (it is my favorite spot), my dad used to drive us up in the back field there at night on the hay wagon and watch for shooting stars…… memories…:)

  5. Sunsets are magical. Especially when you’re at an elevation to see for miles and miles like in your picture Jenny. Yep, worries seem to disappear with a view like that. There’s the treasure right there. Thank you Jenny and Forrest.

    1. @HeadedDown – If nothing more than coincidental, consider the Miss Ford Spanish translation (p25) of “doze off” to be “transponerse”. This word in Spanish also means “hide” and “transposed”. If one is able to understand the meaning of “sunset” (p95), I kinda wonder if they’ll be that much closer to unhiding the treasure.

That is… if I cared enough.

            1. Hello E.C. Waters. I’m sorry to hear this. I know I cannot change your mind, but perhaps you would go back to the post and reread what each party said. Sometimes we read things that truly aren’t what is being said, although, I may be wrong.

              pdenver
              1. @pdenver – I definitely appreciate your empathy and I’m slowly continuing to re-engage. Maybe. Your point is a good one. Can any of us really say we correctly read Fenn and understand his intent? When he says something like this …

“Helen, I get no satisfaction from writing as if my thoughts were formulated. If you don’t understand my meaning, I hope you would at lease understand my intent. Sometimes, in the still of myself, my nuances do not evoke the presence of an author, but of a scribbler. Sorry for the confusion. f”

… I spiral into the confusion of which he apologizes and I disengage. Not sure what there is to re-read, but I’m open to opinions.

                E.C. Waters
                1. It’s all a matter of perspective E.C.
                  E. Sloane would scribble on the napkins/placemat and everyone couldn’t wait till he wasn’t looking to get one. Why do you suppose that was so?

                  JL
                2. Hello E.C. Waters. I’m glad you’re reconsidering. I’m not sure if I can explain my thoughts the way I wish…perhaps I may be a scribbler…a daydreamer in thoughts. I know what my thoughts are, but conveying them isn’t easy. I don’t know ahead of time of what I wish to say, so I can only do my best. When I took business courses and had to write letters to companies, I had to be exact to what I wanted to convey to them…more formulated…precise in every word chosen. With this post, I am not. I don’t know my exact words, but can only hope you and others know what I mean. Perhaps you might see this as a possible way of what Mr. Fenn may have tried to convey to Helen. I am not he, so I may be wrong.

                  pdenver
                3. @pdenver – I trust your words are written exactly with their intended meaning. That’s the primary difference. You haven’t written a problem in poem format with a $1M+ stake for its solution. And everything I’ve read of yours suggests you are a respectful, caring, and empathetic individual.

                  E.C. Waters
                4. @JL – not everyone. Just those that valued his output.

There’s another Sloane co-located with the Rosetta Stone that may be more significant in value, if you know what I mean.

                  E.C. Waters
        1. Hi E.C Waters,

I hadn’t taken the time before to read your mind blowing thinking on the other blog. I did after reading your posts above. I believe a lot of your thinking is right on the mark and in order to reach the end the finder will have to have done some thinking like you do… I know I’m trying to… Don’t loose your spirit. I’ve hit the wall multiple times and all kinds of people have told me I am out of my mind for trying to solve this challenge. I’m having too much fun with it so I am keeping my hobby. I’m just wondering what will I do after its found?

  6. The best sunset I have ever seen was on my last search.
Sitting next to a cross, that is near my third blaze of the year.
The only problem is that I did not realize it was a blaze until I got home.
Next spring can not come fast enough.
Until then I will only dream about looking through my blaze.
Peace, and good wishes to all.

    Snider
  7. Thanks Jenny and Mr. Fenn,
If a redneck from Texas was to much of a gentleman to be a scholar then
his lady in waiting must be to much of a corker to part with her knickers.
Don’t blame me it came from a gentlemans magazine, which was dated as well.

  8. Please indulge me the next few posts folks…I read Forrest’s weekly words two hours ago and this is what happened to me LOL! First: I took letters from the second part of the words – “many of your worries will doze off into the sunset” and wrote a poem, so here’s a circle for you –

Old Wiz of OZ ff sent us to our tests
Into the wild and thru the nite wood
Til the sun will rise in the west.

I was also able to extract ‘lense’ from the lines. I believe I remember others mentioning gazing, oculus, focus, mirror….
West to east then south to north. Stay until dawn then look through the lense to the west and see where the beam lies???

So does anyone know in which direction did Dorothy start out on the yellow brick road? It was a SPIRAL! Does anyone want to play Twister?

  9. Ha! My Mom said to Big Daddy one night, “Ya know Dad, I’m gonna click my red shoes tonight and wish for a hail storm, cuz the insurance people need to buy us a new roof.” and she did – click those red Nike’s she always wore. Well, two nights later a tornado ripped through the neighborhood and took out several neighbors’ houses and her big oak trees. Big Daddy opened the kitchen door just as the roof flew off! True story. That woman was a force of nature!

  10. I’m full of ideas but can’t risk a fire. Courage has run away and my heart is rusty from tears. I’m asleep in my sedan in the land of poppies waiting for the taste of snow. I know now there is no place like home and I hope these red shoes I insisted on wearing will take me there. Oh! Someone tie me to the mast cuz the wind is blowing something fierce today here in the land of the sunhat! Who REALLY is that old wiz behind the curtain? Now remind me again…it is all a dream. A construct of my ego. She smiles and closes the book.

    1. Hello, Lifesablaze.

“Now remind me again…it is all a dream.”

If you insist. Please allow me…

      “To die, to sleep –
To sleep, perchance to dream – ay, there’s the rub,
For in this sleep of death what dreams may come…”

But You and I can still dream…that MANY of our worries will doze off into the sunset.

Thanks again, Forrest and Jenny…for more things to ponder while gazing at a sunset.

        JC1117,
The voice matches the composition – these artists can reach another level. Thank-you. I’ve also noticed that the URL itself that you posted, is itself interesting per se (next year, then?). Here’s another Rachmaninoff from a movie I really enjoyed.
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4E7XHOotTX0

Have you ever seen the movie “Shine” where the main character has a nervous breakdown while trying to perform a piece by Rachmaninoff ( a monster .. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piano_Concerto_No._3_(Rachmaninoff) ). This takes us back to the poem, which is “straight for ward”.

        Good Luck

        1. Thank you Forrest and Jenny and the posters on the forum. Sometimes I have a hard time figuring out who is who but maybe that makes it all the more fun.

The window appears to be open for my family to try one last trip this season. I enjoy my searching most when my family is with me. Lately I’ve been reading the forums with the weekly words and surprise words and some of it I have found to be quite inspirational. It has truly been a mind bending experience from all kinds of angles. I wonder if I seek the answer to life, the universe and everything maybe I will be led to the 42 lb chest hidden where the eye cannot see. When I get to where I am going I will be sure to use my good eye to follow the blaze all the way to its end and then I will try to use my other eye to see the answer from there. If I doze off at the end I wonder if I will see the cow back at the beginning. It is all certainly very abstract thinking so maybe I’m just short on sleep. The one thing I know for sure is the place I have in mind is a peaceful place where one can sit and listen and have one’s worries float away. Is it the same place as Fenn’s place? I don’t know for sure. I do know that I will enjoy watching the sunset from the spot and if it is the right spot I’m sure I will be wearing my best smile. Of course that would come after raising the lid.

Good luck to all in the chase! May all your dreams come true and remember to enjoy the journey wherever that may lead.

    2. Fantastic. I changed a bit. Sorry in advance if a sorry is needed. If so muchos sorries.

I’m full of ideas but can’t risk a fire. Courage has run away and my heart is rusty from tears. But hot with desire.

I’m asleep in my sedan in the land of poppies
waiting for the taste of snow. I know you know my plan and he got me.

now there is no place to go like home.
and I hope these red shoes I chase and insisted on
Will take me there with the few oh!

Someone tie me to the mast cuz the wind grows. And Now blows.
      something fierce today. You know…

      Here’s the plan
in the land of the sunhat! And pierced ears fade the glow. That’s a fact. Man l, check this flow. It’s a rap.

Who REALLY is that old wiz behind the curtain? He be that. That he Is shot a crow for certain. Few see that. The rest be hurting.

Now remind me again…it is all a dream? A construct of my ego. It seems, so best believe. That She smiles and closes the book of fenn at the seams.

He be the hero? The one with the pen is still spiritual. I don’t mean to offend.
But the blaze it winks as it descends. Beyond the edge, i think. Staged. Like the sunset over the brink. That’s what he pledged.

A promise to keep. till the end.
Honest when we speak. 🙂 But yet we all still Be promised to play pretend.

  11. How are you doing tonight?
    Who am I talking too?
    Is it you, or everyone?
Forrest has been talking to you, for a long time now. You have found the area that indulgence is hidden in.
Many of you have thought about what will happen to you after you find the treasure? Many have not.
I personally think about what it will do to my wife, my three children, and how it will affect our lives. Is it for the better? I think so as long as you are ready for it. What about my families safety? What about all them crazy basterds? Is it all worth it?
These weekly words are not about your normal everyday worries.
They are about your worries of finding indulgence.
If you have not thought about all of this, then Forrest is not talking to you!!!
“Many of Your worries will doze off with the sunset.”
Doze, to pass in time, just like every sunset.

    Snider
        1. It was changed a while ago. In reaction to The woman’s email to fenn (that’s why he says a woman may have been with him). Holding him responsible for the outcome. Use the internet way back machine. Find the estimated date. You be searching then? Anyone be? Where you go? New Mexico? Lol. Buy ya ticket. 🙂

          HeadedDown
    1. Hi Snider,

I’d like to think I am he who is being talked to but can we ever really truly be sure until we find it? I like to think that the special place where I have been a number of times is Forrest’s special place and that what I know about the place that makes it special is what is special for Forrest. But of course if that were all complete and true one has to ask why has the treasure not yet been found. So what do we ever really know for sure. Sometimes we just have to go on faith and put our best foot forward and see what happens. I suppose that can be true with anything in life.

For all of us searchers I’d like to say that I feel part of something special. Forrest has given us all a gift and I believe that all who have searched have shared in that treasure. It is all around us all of the time waiting for us to open our eyes and see.

Will I be prepared for what happens if I am the one who finds it? I don’t know but I can hope. A song I hear on the radio comes to mind about staying humble and kind. I think if the finder (or any of us for that matter) can manage that then no matter what is happening around them they have a great chance of getting through it all right. If it is me I know I will be putting my best foot forward.

Blessings to all and I hope all stay safe as this season nears the end!

      Point Foot
      1. Point Foot and Snider,
you both make very profound statements, imagine the world we could live in that Forrest is trying to teach us to see and if only everyone would be humble and kind. I suggest watching the video in the morning, it is a great way to start your day.

This content and phrasing of this Weekly Words was so unusual, as to prompt further exploration.

    In Forrest’s Yearly (2/4) Six Questions (https://mysteriouswritings.com/category/six-questions-with-forrest/ ) he said (2013):

    “The key word is contentment.”

And the next year, in 2014

“Many are giving serious thought to the clues in my poem, but only a few are in tight focus with a word that is key. The treasure…”

(I don’t believe it is necessary to rule out the practical side of the treasure hunt, to explore the overarching meaning).

Now, link these quotes to the Weekly Words, and reframe the treasure in context.

Continuing to expand the inquiry, to the Maranatha “Et in Arcadia Ego” puzzle, which says that

    “Contentment is the Philosophers Stone
.Without Me the rich are poor
.And with Me the poor are rich”

(again, the idea of riches / treasure linked to contentment)
    ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Using this as a link, the subject / verb “worries will doze” is unusual.

The word DOZE (4,15,26,5) evaluates to 50 which is the final page in the Maranatha puzzle where Latin the “ET IN ARCADIA EGO” is shown as anagram “I Tego Arcana Dei” (note: this a reverse acrostic close to datio (giving)).

Breaking the word “do ZE” can give some options, but staying with the numerical evaluation to “do ZE (31)” and going to the page 31 of the Maranatha puzzle. This page relates to an astrologer who gazing at the stars, with a particular focus (so relate to gazing at a sunset). Below is how the text is presented in the puzzle (a 12 x 13 grid) only the code characters have been translated and annotations have been made, including the echo of the word DOZE (lower right). You can also find FORREST FENN as a tight group of letters (upper right).

  13. Been at it this morning already. Geez, and I thought I would have found the treasure already by now. What a fun thing to do though! Reading the poem each day has really increased my knowledge, as I tend to google a lot and learn new things. I have a tendency to doze off now and then, but one of these days it’s all going to pay off.

  14. A beautiful thought. Thank you Forrest and Jenny!

I consider any day where I have I learned one thing a good day. I remember one particular day learning contentment has everything to do with one’s frame of mind and not much about what is happening around me. Getting to that place sometimes takes a journey where at the end you can enjoy the peacefulness of solitude listening to the whispers in the wind and watching the sun rise and fall in the sky.

I’m not sure anyone can fully prepare themselves for what comes next but they can know that whatever it is will surely shape their character. One piece of advice …. think about bringing a shovel in case you get stuck. It can be an amazing tool and I kinda wish I brought one last time.

Be safe and blessings to all still in the chase. May you find many treasures on your journey!

  15. Probably 100,000+ people have gone to the Rockies looking for this, and a few thousand have had some great ideas. I would estimate that several dozen have been close, and just a smidgeon of those knew why they were close. 7 years it’s been out there. I actually don’t think I might find it, even though there have been signals in my direction that I might be close. I think the gov would try to find it, based on Internet chatter, homing-in on the closest blaze located on some hard drive’s notes, and just secreting away with it. But then… Maybe they’d have the tact to want to hire such a puzzle master and leave his/her prize in place. ?:)?

    1. I found this simple poem on the Web. It reminds of the sunshine provided by the chase. When the cold passes, I’ll be back on the chase…for sure…and like your books and the collection of good works around you, I will put my best foot forward. Until then, good luck to all in the search!

You have always been more than our guide,
Showed us the way, our eyes opened wide.
Taught us the importance of faith and to serve,
If we are good, God’s home we’ll deserve.

Thank you for leading the path to the light,
You taught us, that our faith is our sight.
Each Sunday we come to learn,
How our sins, others do burn.

      Thank you for your dedication,
      Teaching us about salvation.
Bringing us closer to the Lord,
      Is the most beautiful award.

        1. Your welcome and if you get the chance could u mention to that goofy guy he has me in the nuked position for the whole summer and maybe he could reverse that somehow. As a favor to me? It would be much appreciated. I never got a ticket for breaking the rules so he must have me mixed up with sumbody else. Either that or I scared him.

          JL
                1. You’re welcome, JL. In regards to fishing, what kind do you do? I’ve recently started fly fishing and it’s so much fun. Not one bite, but, nonetheless, a fantastic time. I honestly have to give Mr. Fenn all the credit for this. His conversations and watching him make a Wooly Worm inspired me to learn. Made some of my own. Not the best looking, but I figured if the fish saw it, they would wonder what it was and go belly up from laughing, if they ever could laugh. 🙂

                  pdenver
                2. pdenver,
When I was a young boy I drowned a lot of worms. Then in my early twenties, I read an article about nymph fishing in a Field and Stream magazine and I have been trying to teach myself how to fly fish ever since. I have tied some flies and it is fun to catch something on one of your own creations. I enjoy trout fishing, but my favorite is salmon fishing in Alaska.

                  JL
          1. JL,
Take the Goofy expulsion as an award of excellence. The old guy is a black and white thinker, and he has no room in his bubble for thinkers that dream in the middle and on the edges. I remember him openly laughing at those who dared to think Mr. Fenn could be hinting in his communications. Now he is the minority, stubbornness will get no one anywhere in this chase, one must be willing to admit they are wrong, adapt and progress. The deep freethinkers have long been banned from the club, an honour they should wear proudly on their chest.

              1. Honor looks just like dishonor, it depends on who’s doin’ the lookin’.

But Goofy, that’s one evil fellow(?). He sacrifices virgins and eats babies. No wonder he doesn’t see our honor boldly scotch taped to our chests!
I was banned too, but it doesn’t matter. I think it’s got to be hard moderating the internet.
I can still read that fantastic site though…
                so THERE GOOFY!
                TAKE THAT!
See you, Goofy, when I get the treasure! I’ll buy you and Dal a drink and show you half the how (the other half goes to Jenny).
Or maybe I won’t if I can’t. I guess that really doesn’t matter to anyone but me.

            1. Hi Wolf,

Reading your post made me think of the riddle “What is black and white and red all over?” LOL. I just told my two little ones. They loved it and asked me for more. Now I’m trying to remember the riddle about 3 cows. I believe Fenn hints in all kinds of communication. Part of the trick these days is knowing when he is talking. I like to think I am a deep thinker and I’ve enjoyed reading many of the things you have written. Some of your posts have definitely inspired me in my searches. Thank you for your all your words.

              Dampened Myth
          2. Hello JL. I remember fishing with worms when I was a kid. Had a bamboo pole with a red and white bobber on the end. Caught sunnies, perch and bluegill. Wish I still had that pole. Later, when I became an adult, I used (and still do) salmon eggs. Haven’t used the Powerbait, but family have caught plenty. One gentleman taught us to use raw hamburger and those fish sure went crazy over it. Haven’t done in it in a while…mostly forget to bring it. Salmon fishing sounds like a fantastic time. I wonder what kind of fight they would give one? Must be one heck of a rush. Family went to a lake late spring and caught some lake trout that ranged from 25″-28″. I wasn’t able to go. I’ve never had anything that large on my line and sure wish I could some day. My biggest dream is to go marlin fishing. I want to know what that fight feels like.

P.S. Found out why you got banned. Perhaps if you think real hard, you might remember.

            pdenver
            1. oh, getting banned for stating a fact? Most likely. It was all subject to interpretation but at the time being banned seemed ok to me and still is a good reason to find something more constructive to do. Maybe f is right about that alligator, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use that alligator’s head as a stepping stone to get across, I didn’t loose any sleep over it and would probably do the same under the same set of circumstances. I am usually consistent if nothing else.

I would like to pursue steelhead fish sometime in the future, I would think that they would be fighters like salmon. If a good salmon makes it to the heavy current it usually is impossible to get them back. I caught a shark once that was bigger than the boat I was in, down Mexico way. Needless to say, that was a very quick catch and release. My biggest fish landed is a 76# Halibut just outside Homer AK. There is a thrill to be had catching large fish that is certain. Fly fishing just happens to be relaxing even if nothing is biting. There was a time I used to dream about catching a big marlin but with the cost involved, i figured i best think about going brookie fishing. I hope you get to go someday.

              JL
              1. Hello JL. I agree with fly fishing being relaxing, even if nothing bites. I have found when fishing with a regular pole, meaning rod/reel, hook, and sinker, that if nothing is biting, I tend to get bored. With fly fishing, I’m actively casting my line out and it gives me something to do. Time went by quickly while fishing in Yellowstone. Not one bite, but so much fun. First time in waders. My concern is whether or not I’ll be able to feel when the fish takes my fly. I don’t believe it’s anything like a “regular rod” when one bites. I can feel when the bite happens on those. Catching a shark? Yikes! I think I would have freaked out finding a shark on my line. That must have been one heck of a fight. I couldn’t imagine the cost of deep sea fishing, but always thought it would be great to feel the fight. Probably wouldn’t be strong enough to reel one in, but just to feel what the fight would feel like has been a dream for quite some time. I don’t think it will ever happen, but what are dreams for anyways, correct? The halibut must have been a beauty to reel in. Did you keep it? I hope you get to fish for steelhead real soon and get to see your photo in a magazine with the biggest catch.

                pdenver
                1. pdenver,
You bring a smile to my face and a chuckle to my lips, you must be a real hoot in person. If a person wants something bad enough they will find a way. If you want to feel the fight just take every opportunity you can. Most of my “exotic” fishing trips I did visiting someplace my wife wanted to go on vacation. The big shark episode happened on a trip to Cabo. I rented a fishing trip with guide and boat for a half day at a cost of 165 dollars, It left early in the morning while it was dark. As it started getting light out I noticed that the boat was small, needed maintenance and there was not a life jacket in sight. The guide could not or would not speak English so a lot was lost in translation, too be honest I was happy to have made it back to the pier alive.

My halibut trip was a trip with my wife and youngest son for his graduation gift. He caught a couple in the twenty-pound range and I had one in that range also, you were allowed two. We had them packaged and shipped home along with some salmon we caught also. We had many meals in the freezer from that trip, all very healthy and if you can supplement some elk in there a person eats like a king. As far as my photo in a magazine that does not concern me much, I do not do what I do for fame. I do it for myself which seems selfish I guess but it would be like me catching a fighting fish for you, some things you just have to experience yourself.

                2. Hello JL. I’m glad I was able to put a smile on your face and a chuckle to your lips. For the most part, I’m a shy person, with a little bit of a devil on her shoulder when it makes an appearance. When it does, then watch out. 😉 Gosh, it would be nice to be able to make a dream come true. I just count my blessings to be able to rub two nickels in my pocket each day, which is about all that I have in currency. Maybe a little bit of an exaggeration, but really not far from it. Otherwise, I’m a rich person in other ways. My gosh, the Cabo trip sounded like a lot of fun. Think about it. The memories you made on that early morning trip and being able to make it back to the pier alive. Yes, I’m sure you would have preferred things went a lot better than they did, but you would have also not been able to tell me the story as you have.

The halibut trip sounded like you and your family had a great time. Definitely had a freezer full of healthy food. I haven’t had elk in a long time. This weekend, my family will be heading out antelope hunting. My youngest son pulled a tag. He’s an excellent hunter and I’m sure he’ll get one to put food in the freezer. Goose hunting will start that weekend, too. They have a blind reservations for the following weekend. Goose has dark meat and very rich. It tastes just like beef. Only able to eat just a little because it fills ones’ belly. Have you eaten either of those?

As for the magazine, no, not for fame, but that you caught the “big one”. It doesn’t matter if others know, but matters if you know you did. I agree, it’s through our own experience which matters the most. Here’s to you, that you may find fish on your line and a good time to remember.

                3. pdenver,
Yes I have eaten goose and antelope and most other wild game, moose , caribou, deer, elk, bear, sheep and goat for the big animals. Then rabbit, grouse, ducks, quail, pigeon, dove, squirrel, and wild turkey for the smaller. I prefer wild game over most any meat unless buffalo. I like buffalo but what I have eaten was raised on a ranch so I do not consider it wild game.
I hope you are able to fill the freezer as the farmers almanac is calling for a hard winter. Keep rubbing your nickels together and maybe your dreams will come true for you. I am in much the same boat but I have gotten to do many things that at one time I thought might not be in my stars, I have many to go yet also. Opportunity has a way of knocking when you least expect it you need to take advantage of it if it does.

                4. Hello JL. Wow! You’ve eaten a lot of wild/big game! That’s fantastic! I haven’t eaten most of what you have. I’ve hunted dove a couple times, but never ate it myself, but serve it to my family. Roasted it in the oven, covered with stuffing to keep it moist and I’ve made stew with it. Been many years since I’ve eaten elk and deer. I’ve had opportunities to eat bison burgers in Yellowstone, but I chose not to. Other family members have. I know what it tastes like because I purchased it at the grocery store. I tasted a very small piece of rabbit when I was about ten years old; my uncle hunted them. Haven’t eaten the others you’ve mentioned, besides the ones I have. Didn’t read the Farmer’s Almanac for this year, but I do agree it will be a rough winter. When I see the animals start gathering much sooner than expected, I know something is going to happen. Heck, even watching the leaves turn to color earlier than usual tells me something is in the mist. I’m still waiting for opportunity to knock and when it does, I’m shoving my foot between the door and door jam. 🙂
