5 Reasons for Pokémon Box in Missouri:

  • #1)

Mewtwo is seen at the end of the book in the photo. Jon says this is an actual photo (although manipulated) and in the story it is said to be taken near the end of his journey.

The Mewtwo Pokémon is known to be found in a cave.  Missouri is nicknamed the cave state.

  • #2)

Missouri is also nicknamed the ‘gateway to the west’ and ‘the show me state’.  Both these nicknames could be seen hinted to in the text.

‘Show me state’ –  Jon shows Froakie and the Greninja some of the treasure items in the box. Is this why? Because it is a hint to the ‘show me state’?   Also is this why they ‘clapped feverishly’ and ‘winked knowingly’ – was it a hint to Missouri?

‘Gateway’ –in the text is mention of Portland (Maine) – maybe a hint to Port Land or gateway to the west.  There are mentions of other ‘doors’ and portals in the text too.

  • #3)

Missouri’s state dance is the ‘Square Dance’.  In the text are phrases like ‘knew every corner of the area’.  To be fair though – Arkansas’ state dance is the square dance too.  So this clue washes out – but yet remains on the Arkansas list since Hemmed in Hollow is a box canyon.

  • #4)

The two Charizards at the beginning – with pokedex numbers each of 6 – could hint to 66 – which Route 66 birthplace is Springfield, Missouri.

  • #5)

Mewtwo is shown at the end.  With emphasis on circular route – and circle connecting to the end and beginning  – each going together – the name Mewtwo has M and O – beginning and end – circle.  MO being state abbreviation for Missouri.
