Six Questions with Ramblin Pam:

1)When did you first hear and learn about the Treasure Hunt?

I first learned about the Treasure Hunt through my husband in 2017. It didn’t take us long to get out and start searching. In July that year, we made our first trip to New Mexico and Colorado to do some exploring. Then in September we traveled to the Yellowstone area for our first actual BOTG search. For two weeks, we hiked Bear Trap Canyon, explored along the Madison River, Hebgen Lake, Cabin Creek, West Yellowstone and Gardiner. Plus we spent time in Yellowstone touring the park. We wrapped up our search by stopping in Grand Tetons and Jackson Hole Wyoming.

2)What inspired you to become involved and begin searching?

I was inspired by Forrest Fenn’s story because I’m also cancer survivor. I went through a lot of down times with the surgery and the subsequent treatment. This search was just what I needed to get out there, to see and explore places I have never been.

3)What is your most favorite part about the Treasure Hunt so far?

There’s so many favorite parts – I’ve loved all of the beautiful places we’ve traveled. I feel so fortunate to have met so many wonderful people in the Fenn Community. Meeting Forrest Fenn this summer was definitely a highlight. He’s a very kind and generous man.

4)What is your least favorite part about the Treasure Hunt so far?

I wish the BOTG search season was longer. We were snowed in during last years search in Yellowstone. A snowstorm dropped 8” of snow overnight. It set our search back a bit, but it was still a great trip!

5)What is the best or most unique thing you found while searching for Forrest Fenn’s treasure chest?

Some of best things about the search have to be the adventures we’ve been on and the funny and interesting things that have happened along the way. On our first search this spring, I had just gotten out of the the truck and heard a rustle in the woods. I saw these big brown furry butts running down the side of the hill. I immediately thought BEAR! And ran back to the truck. Turned out to be several Elk. Lol. On another hike, I found what looked to be a raft in the middle of the woods. It had been out there for quite some time, maybe years. It was folded and tied up neatly. At first and I thought, hmmm, no paddle up your creek? It ended up being just an air mattress. Oh well…Lol

6)What more would you like to say?

Just as Forrest Fenn made it his goal to hide his Treasure, I’ve made it one of my goals to try and find it! I hope everyone has as much fun out there searching for Forrest Fenn’s Treasure Chest as we’ve had. Thank you Mysterious Writings!

  1. Well said, as always, Ramblin’ Pam!

I also ran full speed away from a “bear” on my first BOTG trip. After 100 yards, I turned around to find that the bear was actually a buffalo—and it hadn’t moved an inch except for wagging its tail.

  2. I love your videos Pam. Very thoughtful and you always bring such wonderful insight into the essence of humanity that we all share. The real treasures in this world, are the connections we make along the way. 🙂

  3. When I watched Pam’s interview of Forrest and he came to the part where he said the name of the place where his first book was printed, I thought I heard him say the name of my town, which has a unique name. I listened to it several more times and though he was speaking softly and had that drawl I was pretty certain of what I was hearing. So I played that section for my brother, who also heard it unprompted, and for a fellow searcher who also said, “yeah, that’s what he’s saying.” So then I played it for Beth, who grew up in California. She said, “He said ‘Buena Park.’ It’s a real place and you’d have heard it too if you all weren’t so brainwashed.”
