Six Questions with Jason Dent (Fenn Treasure Hunter)

1)When did you first hear and learn about the Treasure Hunt?

I first heard of the Fenn treasure in 2013, from one of his appearances on the Today Show or another news story. I had just left FT. Bliss, TX and was stationed in FT. Drum, NY. I used the time wisely and studied the poem and even got my mother involved in the chase by sending her info.

2)What inspired you to become involved and begin searching?

I have always been interested in treasure hunts and have researched many only to discover that they are either on land that is inaccessible to the public, clouded in myth, or impossible to fully research or locate. This chase is now. It was hidden by someone alive, someone of our time. The are resources and communities online that are growing. This treasure hunt was just too exciting to not develop a solution and hunt for it.

3)What is your most favorite part about the Treasure Hunt so far?

My favorite part about this treasure hunt is the friendships and community that I’ve been a part of. I met my girlfriend as a direct result of the Forrest Fenn Treasure. I’ve also been invited to meet Forrest Fenn and share military stories as well. The are so many amazing people that have Blogs, YouTube channels, and websites dedicated to this. Definitely the community is my favorite part of this hunt.

4)What is your least favorite part about the Treasure Hunt so far?

My least favorite part of the treasure hunt is that I cannot be out in nature, drinking in the sunshine everyday. The travel distance and inability to leave work makes an actual Boots on the ground hunt challenging. Also the military life and being stationed all over the world had made it difficult to get to my BOTG location.

5)What is the best or most unique thing you found while searching for Forrest Fenn’s treasure chest?

The best and most unique find from my involvement has been my girlfriend. She is a priceless find. However, the most interesting find related to a boots on the ground has to be the atlatl point and running man sketch that was secreted away under a rock blaze. The ever changing scenery and fresh mountain air truly makes The Thrill of the Chase worthwhile.

6) What more would you like to say?

I would like to thank Forrest Fenn for creating the Chase. Without the hunt for his treasure I would have never met Sacha. I have also enjoyed the frustrations with developing my solutions and loved every boots on the ground search. I encourage everyone to go searching for lost treasure. The experiences you will have are reward enough.. even if no treasure is found.

Thanks Fenn Treasure Hunter  aka Jason!  How awesome you and Sacha are on the ‘Fenn Treasure Hunters’  YouTube Channel...  a change from Hunter to Hunters!   You guys make a cute couple!   And as we have seen recently, it is all about the ‘community’, friendships, and the experiences enjoyed along the way in the search for treasure.

Thanks again for participating!

  1. Nice post, Jason. Two thumbs up for you and Sacha.
I agree on the frustrations and the fun of overcoming them when a light comes on.
I wish I could get out in the Rockies more too. They are a true national jewel.
Thank you for serving this great nation. It isn’t perfect, but it’s closer than any other nation. Preserving it while we work through the many issues is the only way forward and we’ve got the system to do that.
Your find is very intriguing! Sure, it could be a mislead from another searcher, but it could also be a hint.
Was that running man sketch somehow preserved so it would stand the test of time, even for a few years?
    Very curious.
