legend has it treasure hunts

After the successful conclusion to their first hunt Dead Man’s Gold, hidden in Arizona, Legend Has It releases its second treasure hunt! This one is called Legend of Avarice: Bad Omens. Like their first hunt, a secret KEY must be found by following clues within the hunt materials. This KEY is a permanent object waiting somewhere within the Nevada Triangle to be discovered. A searcher will submit a photo with the KEY/object visible, which was edited out of an image provided in the hunt materials to claim the CASH PRIZE (currently around $2500). Can you solve the clues and discover the KEY?!

Let’s learn more!

Six Questions with Nate and Andy:

  • 1Q) Congrats on your first hunt having a successful ending! From a previous Six Questions we learned what inspired you to create that first hunt. What inspired you to create now a second one?

Our reasons for creating treasure hunts remain the same: to create an opportunity for the “thrill of the chase” to live on inside others. We also loved hearing back from those who joined the first hunt and wanted to stay engaged with the community. We plan to continue creating treasure hunts for as long as we can.

The inspiration for this second hunt came from our discovery of the Nevada Triangle and the many mysterious stories that come from it. We decided to capitalize on this and developed a legend of our own that ties into this area and brings in a few extra tantalizing elements that will give the treasure hunters a real treat.

  • 2Q) How can someone get involved in this second hunt? Please share a little more about it, how it all works, and if there are any differences to the first.

All of our treasure hunts will be fundamentally the same in how they work. Each treasure hunt involves a legend that we have invented which contains embedded clues that will lead you to a precise location. The key to “unlock” the treasure is a photo of a particular object in this location which must be submitted to us. To join, go to our website (www.LegendHasIt.net/store) and pay the participation fee. Each fee contributes directly to the treasure’s ever-growing amount, which is crowd funded. To get the full details of how it all works visit our FAQs page.

  • 3Q) Your first hunt was solved in less than six months. How long do you feel the Legend of Avarice: Bad Omen will take? Are the clues more difficult? And are they cipher heavy, research related, both, or how would you describe it? What is your advice to searchers working on it?

It’s very hard to judge how long it will take. In some ways it could be easier but in others it may be much harder. We do anticipate that it will take a bit longer than the first though. The clues will take the participants through several exciting research topics, as well as a beautiful outdoor adventure. While we can’t comment directly on your questions about the clues, we will say that we tried to incorporate much of the feedback we had received from the first hunt into this second hunt.

Our advice is to just have fun with it. To us, the treasure isn’t the monetary reward at the end, it’s the journey, the interesting things you’ll learn and the beautiful places you’ll go. Even if you’re not the one to solve it first, keep at it.

  • 4Q) What are your feelings towards the physical aspect needed for the discovery of the KEY. Does it require multiple boots on the ground, hiking distances (longer than a mile), camping overnight, crossing waterways, etc. Also, can a searcher discover where the KEY is before ever putting boots on the ground – are there enough clues to provide a precise location?

We can’t say how far a person may have to hike without giving away hints, but we can say that we try to keep the physical outdoor requirements to the level of an average person. We’d feel comfortable taking our 9 and 10 year old children with us as well as our father who has had both knees replaced. You will not need to do anything dangerous either. No fording rivers, scaling cliffs, or crawling into caves. If you feel unsafe, you are probably not in the right place.

If a person correctly solves the clues, they will be led to a specific location with a clear view of the Key. However, as with the previous hunt and all future hunts, some clues can only be solved with boots on the ground.

  • 5Q) What did you enjoy most about creating the hunts for Legend Has It?

Setting off to explore a certain area in the wild with the mentality of looking for the perfect Key is unlike any other hiking we’ve ever done. We research the history of the area, native lore, explore old maps, go off trail, examine the terrain, the horizon, and surrounding areas. By the time we’ve found the Key, we know the area better than our own neighborhoods. It’s a wonderful experience and surprised us both how much we enjoy it. We also love diving into our research and exploring literally hundreds of rabbit holes until finally all the pieces line up perfectly. And what better person to do this with than a brother?

  • 6Q) What are your hopes for Legend Has It in the future?

We hope to continue creating these hunts for as long as we can. As we learn how to design ever-better treasure hunts, we hope to gain enough fans, and raise enough money, that we can not only continue placing hunts in the US, but worldwide. Wouldn’t it be exiting to join a hunt with a treasure valuable enough to convince you to chase it into the Amazon, the Outback, a Pacific Island, Norway, Dominica, or Iguazu Falls? Wherever it may be, our dream is to provide people with some of their best memories while exploring the wonders of nature.
