Ancient Mehen Game Board

Each month (since February) I’ve been sharing one of my favorite articles from over the last ten years posted on this website. I’ve also held a free drawing for a small prize based on that article. This is in celebration of MW’s 10th anniversary year and a way to thank those who visit MW.

It was in February of 2012 that I first created this website to share some of my thoughts on treasure hunts and other topics. Till the end of 2022, I am taking time to look back. It’s been an interesting journey so far.  Not only of reflecting on where MW started, but where it is today, and will be tomorrow. I have to say, there are major changes coming to this website ahead. It will be exciting and set the course for the next 10 years!

I hope you have enjoyed the journey so far. I’ve shared the following articles, and in each, why I chose that particular article.

2/22: Howard Carter’s Most Prized Treasure

3/22: Wisdom of the Five Sided Crown

4/22: Tamerlane: Do You Have One?

5/22: The Philosopher’s Game

6/22: The Value of the Quest

And now 7/22: The Mysteries of Mehen.   It was either that or The Sumerian Riddles.   The Sumerian Riddles are mentioned in The Secrets of Mehen, and since Mehen is one of the oldest known games, I’ve chosen Mehen. The Sumerian Riddles is actually one of the most popular posts on this website. It’s funny you might not think that, but there are many articles written years ago, before I began focusing on armchair treasure hunts, that greatly outrank the treasure hunt posts.

Anyway…..back to The Secrets of Mehen.  If you’ve read so far, you might be realizing I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting. You then won’t be surprised when I say I chose this post as a favorite because it talks about journeying to discover one own’s heart.

In ancient times games were played for more spiritual and ritualistic reasons. They provided an experience. Knowledge was gained by the game’s design, movement, and rules. The game symbolized real life actions, and it was believed Mehen could have represented a journey to the heart.

That journey has to be one of the greatest. And those that follow their heart are sure to find the greatest treasures.

Games have always been one of my passions. I have another website, AllAboutFunandGames.com where I share old (and new) games in my collection. Sometimes, the topics of the sites crossover. Like in this instance, with Mehen.

Read more about Mehen here on MW to answer the following question. Submit your answer to treasure@mysteriouswritings.com with subject MW 10 to be entered into a free drawing from all other correct submissions sent by 7/30/22 for the chance to win a MW T-Shirt.

Here is the Question:

What does one enter blind and leave it seeing?

Again, thank you for being part of the MW community and journeying with me as I look back on these last 10 years, to help plan the next 10 ahead!
