MW Treasure Hunt Ideas for Kids:  Find a Hidden Treasure Cache on Halloween

Kids love to trick or treat on Halloween, but another fun idea is for kids to search for a Treasure Cache on Halloween. The cache could hold candy, healthy snacks, movies tickets, chocolate gold coins, or some other prizes you know they will like.

If you are hosting a small Halloween Party or just staying home on this spooky night with your kids, creating a treasure hunt offers lots of fun, and kids are sure to have a blast.

Below is a sheet of clues that you can print off, and cut out.  Or if you don’t have a printer, just write them out on slips of paper. These clues are then placed in their special places to create a trail of clues for kids to follow to your hidden treasure cache.  Maybe play some eerie music as they move around the house searching for the clues to create a more ghostly atmosphere too.

To begin, set aside the first clue.  This clue is not hidden but given to the child/ren to start the hunt.  It will lead to the second clue, which leads to the third, and so on until the last clues leads to the Treasure Cache!  Six to eight clues are enough of a hunt.  Too few and the hunt isn’t long enough.  Too many and the hunt is too long.

The second clue is hidden where clue 1 leads to.  The third clue is hidden where clue 2 leads to, and so on.

For the treasure hunt provided below the clues would be hidden in the following locations:

Clue 1- given to the child/ren to start the hunt  (leads to: broom or vacuum)

Clue 2-hidden on a broom or vacuum  (leads to: shoe)

Clue 3-hidden in a shoe (leads to bathtub/shower)

Clue 4-hidden in the bathtub/shower (leads to trashcan)

Clue 5-hidden in the trashcan (leads to the sink)

Clue 6-hidden in the sink (leads to a bed)

Clue 7-hidden in the bed (leads to a light)

Clue 8-hidden on a light (leads to the closet)

Treasure!  Hidden in a Closet!

Clue 8 leads to the Treasure Cache!  If you feel 8 is too many clues and want there to be fewer clues, simply hide the treasure cache where the last clue you hide leads to.  For example, if you would like to have a hunt consisting of only 6 clues, the treasure cache would be hidden in a bed.
