The off season of the Thrill of the Chase offers many of us searchers the chance to go over our solutions for where we think Forrest Fenn’s Treasure Chest is hidden.  We can review what Forrest is known to have said against our own thoughts.  Does anything contradict where we are looking?  Does anything support it?

I decided to do that with the Australia May 2019 interview.  Here are the highlights of what Forrest has said with some brief commentary (of which I will further elaborate in coming weeks):

  • Q) Has the location you have chosen for the treasure always had a special meaning to you, or did it become a special place later in life?

Forrest’s A) Well Andy, “always” is a long time. I will just say that where I hid the treasure is a very special place to me and I really don’t want to elaborate on that.

My Commentary: There are times he has provided additional information on ‘his special place’. What’s interesting here is how he questions the use of the word ‘always’. Is it because the location became special to him in his later years, and not during his summers in Yellowstone or when he was a young boy, like many searchers have considered?

  • Q)Is a four-wheel drive vehicle required to reach the starting location?

Forrest’s A) Is a four-wheel drive needed to get to the location? Well, I…I don’t need a four-wheel drive to get out of my garage, but I really don’t want to answer a question like that because it gives too many hints or clues.

My Commentary: Interesting. What hints or clues could he give by saying? Especially since he already answered a Question about what he drove there previously: https://mysteriouswritings.com/featured-question-and-weekly-words-from-forrest-hiding-the-treasure/

  • Q)What would you like to happen if the treasure remains unfound?

Forrest’s A)I think somebody’s going to find the treasure – I don’t know when, but, if nobody ever finds it, you know as the decades go on, why eventually somebody’s going to find that treasure.

My Commentary: In MW’s 2020 Questions, he mentions it will only be a matter of time. If this suggests, soon (and it might not), and since this interview was conducted in May, maybe the summer search season proved someone is close?

  • Q) Are you inspired by the community that your treasure hunt has created?

Forrest’s A) Well…inspired is not the right word…….I feel very good and I’m pleased with the number of people who have gone into the Rocky Mountains looking for the treasure. It was one of my goals and I’m very pleased that’s happened.

My Commentary: Again, in the past he’s offered more on how he feels about the Chase he has provided. I’ll go into this more in coming weeks.

  • Q) Are there any sign of civilization or man-made objects in the area where the chest is hidden?

Forrest’s A) Well, I don’t know what you mean by in the area. An area could be a hundred miles. Uh…the place where that treasure chest is hidden is in an isolated area.    (after some thought) What does isolated mean?

My Commentary: His questioning of isolated, along with searchers being within 200 feet and only taking one afternoon to hide the treasure chest, seem to suggest it is not ‘way out there’ but just in a unique place. Plus, since he wanted his bones/body to rest here as well, it has to be ‘isolated’. But how might it be isolated? More on this to come as well.

  • Q) Can the sun shine on the treasure’s location for the majority of the day?

Forrest’s A) The location where the treasure is hidden is in the sun a good part of the day – yeah. (but the chest is not)

My Commentary: First thoughts are that the location is not in a dense forest or deep down in a canyon. It makes me imagine a nice ‘hidden meadow’, but yet the chest is secreted well- unable to be readily seen by any one merely walking by. Again…more to come.

  • Q) What inspires you to keep the treasure hidden after all these years?

Forrest’s A): As opposed to going back to get it? Is that what he’s trying to say.   Well, when I hid the treasure I had no intention of going back and getting it. I mean, it’s where I left it…it’s going to be there for a long time until somebody finds it. I hope somebody finds it.

My Commentary: He ‘hopes’ someone finds it and uses the words, ‘long time’. Seems to contradict the previous question. There are a few things in the past that seem to contradict each other. A great topic for further elaboration. Might there be some hints in these anomalies. 🙂

  • Q) When was the last time you checked on it?

Forrest’s A) The last time I checked on the treasure’s location is when I hid it there; I have never been back to that spot.

My Commentary: So how does he know it is still there? He recently said that there will be a way even when he passes. This needs thought about more too! Seems we are going to have quite a lot to do in this off season..lol…

  • Q) Is the chest hidden in a very isolated location?

Forrest’s A) The treasure is hidden where a person would not normally go. Uh, I guess you could call that an isolated location – yeah.

My Commentary: Does this just mean off a trail? We already knew he didn’t like to take to ‘trails’. Forrest has mentioned that in the past- so does this suggest something more or different? Where do people not normally go?

I’ll be going over different quotes, along with these, in the weeks to come and offer more commentary.  I’m not sure the interview offered up anything to contradict where I am currently searching.  However, maybe with some quotes from the past, they will offer up some more support, or maybe as we delve into all things more, something will arise- like the aha moment! Lots of fun ahead!

Stay tuned!

  1. Thank you Jenny for archiving these and giving your insights also. I would love to share some of mine with you on these, but they are too revealing…so alas, maybe in a private venue sometime soon.
…but always is a long time.

  2. The date of this interview, 14 May 2019, and some events around that date lead me to believe you are correct – the treasure will be recovered soon. I would be very surprised if the treasure is not recovered as soon as May or June 2020. However, I will not be the finder, and I don’t know who the finder will be.

There are still some cryptic clues to be solved, which may be relevant to recovering the treasure. “Look quickly down” may not be as straightforward as many people believe.

Good luck to all the searchers as the weather improves. Thanks to Forrest Fenn for his efforts and his amazing contribution.

  3. I’ve noticed a bit of a contrary nature about Forrest’s answer about if he hopes the treasure is found. More so in the recent years. I think maybe this in part due to him not wanting the game to end; but I think the loss of his privacy and freedom has weighed on him over the years and he is more indifferent about it now. IMHO I think there has also been some evidence of an optimistic change last year in several comments he made that might hint he thinks someone is on the trail.
Also have some thoughts that If only we could craft better questions that would satisfy our desire to know if someone in 2019 got dangerously close and told him. Maybe this one: Does he still scan his email for key wods and has anyone tripped all those alerts in 2019? Would that give away too much? I think in a recent interview from the end of the year that Dal N had on his site the reporter tried to ask if anyone has been closer than 200 ft he has said in the past but Forrest was deflected away by another comment from answering that specific detail. I think there was a similar moment when you asked him questions recently? Just a few thoughts I’ve had, and I could totally be wrong on this
