It’s the Great American Coin Hunt!  If you haven’t already, start the habit of looking at your Pocket Change! There will be lots more treasures to find in there because of an effort to put the ‘hunt back into the hobby of coin collecting’.

Collectible Coins are being deliberately placed in circulating coinage during National Coin Week. National Coin Week begins April 21st.

The US Mint is even getting involved in National Coin Week’s (April 21-27) Great American Coin Hunt, and has already begun placing into circulation a limited amount of Quarters with a W Mint Mark.  This is the first for the West Point Mint. Although the West Point Mint has produced quarters in the past they have never placed a W to make them distinguishable.  So if you see a W–  it’s a treasure and worth collecting.

But that’s not the only treasures out there to find in circulating change!  Many coin dealers and collectors are going to drop collectible coins back into circulation as well during National Coin Week!

The 2019 Great American Coin Hunt is being called the biggest drop yet!

Those collectors and dealers participating in the drop will be distributing vintage coins into high traffic areas.  Places like gas stations, malls, restaurants, or grocery stores.   As these circulate, and go unnoticed, they could show up anywhere at any time!  Be on the Lookout!

There will also be some coins placed into circulation that act like a proxy.  Instead of placing the actual very rare coin into circulation, with the possibility of being lost forever, some coin dealers will be placing especially marked coins with Hologram Stickers into circulation. If these are found they can be redeemed for the ‘rare coin’ by following the instructions on the sticker.

So who knows what treasures will be found!

Join the Great American Coin Hunt by looking at your pocket change!

Definitely an exciting treasure hunt for all to enjoy!

Best of luck with all that you seek! Always treasure the adventure!
