Yo Mister Fenn, An angry woman on one of the forums the other day probably wasn’t thinking straight. She said that money can’t buy happiness. I got the feeling you don’t agree. Do you? Agee

No, I don’t Agee, When I was in school and totally devoid of cash for a few days, I’d mow a neighbor’s grass or clean someone’s barn yard to get a dollar or two. The feeling of happiness came over me and was very strong.

A small cup of ice cream cost a nickel and a dollar would buy 20 of those things. I’d walk around with my hand in my pocket, holding my money and whistling. It sounds silly to me now but it sure wasn’t then. It is probably harder to buy happiness if you’re very wealthy, but money can usually make a pretty good down payment. f

  1. Ditto Jenny. Rootbeer float is all I’m saying.
I hadn’t heard that about Forrest putting in another 10,000. I will have to scrounge up some more money to donate to try to get it up to that point. Forrest is awesome!

  2. Thanks Jenny, Forrest, & Agee. A cup of Chocolate peanut butter, Rocky road, Moose tracks (my favorites)….ohhh or vanilla with syrup and extra sprinkles…….that’ll put most people right in the head for at least a little bit. But if you aren’t happy without money, you probably won’t be happy with it either, and some people are just like that and no amount of ice cream can is gonna make a difference to them.

  3. Forrest says: The feeling of happiness came over me and was very strong. I think that Someone has just told Forrest something that has made him very happy. I wonder who has said what?

Forrest then says: “A small cup of ice cream cost a nickel and a dollar would buy 20 of those things. ( a little can buy a LOT of happiness – What would a LOT {Indulgence} buy?) I’d walk around with my hand in my pocket, holding my money and whistling. It sounds silly to me now but it sure wasn’t then.” Forrest is saying that he knows what it feels like to not have money, and can understand how a searcher must feel as the searcher gets close to finding Indulgence.

Forrest then says: “It is probably harder to buy happiness if you’re very wealthy, but money can usually make a pretty good down payment.” f

YUP – YUP Finding Indulgence MAY not be able to buy happiness, but it sure would really make a nice down payment – Sure is nice to dream isn’t it?

Thanks Forrest for letting us dream – JDA

    1. It was Forrest’s birthday and I’m sure he got a lot of birthday wishes. But yes JDA dreams are what it’s all about 🙂 If you’re dreaming of ice cream, unless you know how to make some yourself, money is gonna help 🙂

    2. Here you go, JDA:

So, the title: “Cold Happiness”, leads me to the following:
Your effort will be worth the COLD
Bronze statue was COLD to the touch
      Chest is Bronze.
      Cold = Bronze = Chest
      Chest Happiness
      >>>>>>>>

Also, some ONE is so close they can taste it.

Answer is 2 paragraphs with a total of 9 lines.

First paragraph is shorter, smaller, takes less time to read…less time, younger? Or less time engaged in TTOTC (Searcher/Hunter).

This paragraph tells of someone in need of money and the work or effort applied to earn it, as in “…your effort will be worth the cold…”
Last Sentence contains 11 words. 9 clues and 2 hints. “Happiness” could mean “good fortune”.

Second paragraph is longer, more words, takes more time to read…more time, older? Or more time engaged in TTOTC (Mr. Fenn). Also, these words speak of reminiscence and advice.
Last sentence, with F, contains 22 words. Last sentence comes later, belated. Theme is Happiness…Happy Belated (Birthday).

Perhaps the second paragraph represents Mr. Fenn while the first represents the Hunter, one who is so close, s/he can taste it!

      IMO.

      Peace,

      Inohury

      Inohury
      1. Thanks for the entry Inohury. I like it. I can easily see where your interpretation could very well be true. Whoever the Hunter is, I wish that person well. As to Forrest, I always wish him well. I hope that he does get his belated Birthday present.

Thanks again for your entry – Take care my friend – JDA

        1. JDA,

Adding my “name analysis” separately, as the first post was a bit lengthy.

          inohury
      2. Inohury- you are right, I can almost taste it, however it won’t be as good as ice cream where I have to go to get to it. Counting down to my botg finish. But nervous to do it. Finally. God bless all those still searching!

        Jake P.
      3. Inohury,
WHERE & HOW on earth did you come up with this breakdown??? I’m am NOT worthy! Your breakdown is borderline philosophical GENIUS! I’m not saying you or JDA are correct on your thoughts but man, what if you are!? I mentioned under JDA’s first comment above how I looked at it at first, but I must add this in my line of thinking… My favorite ice cream by FAR is Neapolitan!!! As Jdiggins so wisely mentioned below…YUMMY(blueberries)!
Thanks for the breakdown and thought process! I totally love reading above my level, because be it right or wrong it’s a mind-blowing learning experience for me! I tip my hat! 🙂

    3. JDA, this is exactly why I speak so highly of others such as yourself. You broke this simple bowl of ice cream down and seen things I never would have imagined! Well done young man!
Here’s what I see…Forrest speaks of being able to buy 20 of those things with that dollar(5 cents ea.) so the first thing I thought was there’s a GROUP of people out there that could have possibly found it. And by splitting into 20 portions that a lot of money might not be able to buy you happiness but a simple portion of that dollar would be a nice start on helping make a down payment on a house of happiness.
Now as for Inohurry…WOW! I want to meet this person and pick that brain! How on earth? Like I said a few different times…Y’all are way above me on that level and trust me…I’m looking UP to each and every one of you! Get ‘er done!

      Deano Bravo
  4. Whelp, my hips have begun to call for my execution, and my legs are willing to carry it out. I’ve failed and I don’t get any ice cream. But it was fun and quite an experience. I’m spent, but I did give it my all.

    Buckeye Bob
  5. I’m amazed at the support I’m being given, both mentally and financially. I am proud to be a part of this amazing group of people…my chase family. Thank you all!
Funny, yesterday I wanted an ice cream. We got in the truck and went to Baskin Robbins. 5 minutes later I was enjoying some wild n reckless sherbert, and my husband a strawberry Sunday. I turned to my husband and said,
    “well this is a first!”
We didn’t have the luxury of any quick trips anywhere before because it took a minimum of 30 minutes to get anywhere. So, I was seeing an upside to my new situation, small as it was!
And to agree with forrests answer, money doesn’t buy happiness, but it can sure help rebuilding your life a little easier!
Thanks Forrest, jenny and agee. 🙂

    1. I’m not very good with deadlines. If my memory serves me correctly, you were seated near the pen. I didn’t get many nibbles, just bits. I wonder if there was any other way to nudge things into place s’well for me to be capable of calling the man with the pole and the lady with the bushel in a basket by noon. It’s basically you with the rest of the few. You found it, JDigs.

  6. Hope you enjoyed some ice cream and a fried pineapple cake on your birthday yesterday!

PS – Can someone with a normal name please ask a Fenn a question? The only person on Facebook named “Agee” is a Polar Bear.

Maybe forrest has a friend who is an Agee fan. Or maybe he saw someone wearing an Agee shirt and eating 🍦

(I already donated directly on jdiggins site, but love how this ff community is helping jdiggins.

  7. Update that total amount raised by another $25.
And speaking of money, why did Forrest pick a seemingly random yet precise amount for us to raise before he pitches another $10K? Well, whatever the reason, he’s a real human being.

  8. Swell is to blow, to blow is also a definition for “in the wood as in mad. To inspire, muse, mus(water). I place one pie down to reach the next, the wind blows back for the peaks see all. Nothing rings truer than a bell, if your on the ball, and if so/sew then one may find the hill. Now begin is juniper, and that’s no bull. I grant you a peek into the web that ties peace to crying Uncle. Just one step at a time. This may be last call for I had developed a star chart of the words sources/home/origins and I didn’t see how to bind the pieces, though I had them all. I knew that what was key was key and that rabbit holes drew back to Carroll. To track ones steps, or stepping in your own footprints as you Back track OUT is the final piece. You get direction/distance. I believe it is to be applied back to poem within the lines(ironic using this word) that match up to each other. As I showed ya’ll with the -4 skip code to the letters “cent” in post stamp of Jump-start… Curve cause the day of week is off -4 days, results in YAJP which is JP and JAYP going ‘anyway’. What is also done is that when you see that in the wood means the same as ball which is represented by the words in poem Me+All = meall= ball. And that In the wood and meall/ball both connect to SWELL, which he uses in a recent QA, then you have yr square not. Now to the map, besides my star chart of words, one step to get to the next…. I hope nobody is looking at my stars now…. Points of the poem will match to others. When one innocuous word matches with a geographical word (canyon, water, sand, bowl, walk, end, draw, wood, etc) then you have your geographical name. Tada…

  9. “Happiness is not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort.”
    –Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Money gives one the freedom to do what they want. I’m sure that would make me a happier person.
Also I’ve noticed that the people who like to say that money can’t buy happiness usually have more of it than I do.

  10. If I were fortunate enough to find Indulgence – Bottom line is – I would pay bills and give it all away. I know of at least three mortgages that need to be paid off. Credit Cards to be paid off, etc. I know that Tess and I together can give away 28,000.00 tax free to as many individuals as we can. Counting Tess’ and my descendants that number is at 25 – That alone -= 700,000.00. Uncle Sam gets almost 1/2 – OOPS Indulgence is gone. Tess and I are now debt free, our house is paid for, and we have a BUNCH of happy family members! 🙂 What more can a guy ask for? NADA – JDA

    1. Has anyone ever really thought about this word…happiness. Ha! Ppiness.

And the end of the rainbow…rainbow trout = fish tail. Aren’t fish tales exaggerated?

Lighten up! The sun is out.

  12. Oh Jesus I remember those, in our area we could get the regular size or the Magnum. The Magnum even had a bigger wooden spoon. What was that saying, “Dixie Cups are the Ice Cream treat that’s neat to eat”. Wish I had a nickel in a jar for everyone of those I ate, I’d be rich!

  13. Agee can mean to call the horse to the right, and I’ve read to the left also. On certain trails, inc. the one I lick, asks that bikers call agee to horse riders, hikers and slower bikers. Interesting. The letter g is probably all it draws attention to besides me. I’m trying Major, I know you don’t know witch so I dropped it and am back to whats up your sleeve. I’ve tried ducking the rabbits holes, they belayed me, the belays we’re numerous, the belays were deep, but no more blaze on my horizon. Over easy,, wake up call, ID, rainbow, sundial, 1pm, crow”feet”, kit, bill. Not in that order. Anthony Quinn once played Crazy Horse.

  14. Awwww I figured this one out. Wow, almost didn’t. The def he hints at is askew. I was gonna show why but nah… I don’t think I have a gracious crowd. Major Fenn, if it’s a sap doesn’t bend nor 7 hints in the bag questions, why freely hunt for a low nine? I see your bold stories, your big question in deep poem which yells for neither nuance in tone to solve this. Now monday here I shall try to be done when.

  15. Thank you for the “Featured Question,” Jenny, Agee, and Mr. Fenn. This one is interesting. One needs money to have necessities, and it’s nice to have for some indulgence. I can see both understanding as to whether or not money can buy happiness. As for receiving a dollar or two for the chores you did, they paid you quite well. In 1945, the minimum wage was 40 cents an hour. Somehow I believe you were a young man who enjoyed saving the majority of the money you worked for. You saved to buy “The Bullet,” and later in your twenties, you had funds to begin a business. Look at you now.

    pdenver
    1. Just realized the age I quoted for building the business is off. I was thinking of the money received/saved while being in the military beginning at the age of twenties and for the next twenty plus years. I hope you’ll understand my thoughts.
