Treasure Story FF Box

Kevin Wright of The National Treasure Quests shares his Treasure Story in search for the Forrest Fenn box in There’s Treasure Inside. On page 158 of the book, Jon Collins-Black writes: “I hope you will share your stories with one another. Much can be learned through mutual experiences.”

What better way to show our appreciation for JCB’s Treasure Hunt than by sharing our stories with each other. Read how you can participate! And join us on the MW Discord.

Thank you Kevin for sharing your adventures! Enjoy:

  • 1Q) What Treasure were you searching for and what made you choose that treasure?

Forest Fenn box seems like a wise choice for all those that participated in that hunt. Knowing that JCB treasure stash was motivated by his BOTG for the Fenn treasure, it seems like a logical conclusion that he would hide the Fenn Box based on his field experience. Thus searchers have two poems associated with this quest. Because I already have multiple hours invested in research for the Forest Fenn treasure, which can now be applied to this Quest, it’s the Fenn box for me.

  • 2Q) Can you share some of the clues that led to that search location?

The home of Brown was the one clue in the Forest Fenn quest that I could never work out in any of my solves. I was beginning to experience those same frustrations with JCB’s Fenn box “once was Brown,” until I heard JCB in a Q&A session state that the clues may not always be linear. This, along with “begin where cool water flows” have led to a strong possibility for one particular area.

  • 3Q) Once you were on site, what surprised you most about the area?

I have taken one trip to the location of my solve, only spending two hours there. I’m comfortable letting it sit for this year, because I have heard little noise in the treasure hunting community related to my site. My time was limited this year because we were filming a documentary this summer about another active hunt. Our YouTube production will premier in the next few weeks.

  • 4Q) What is the most memorable moment or unique thing found while searching?

This is a family and Friend adventure for us. Thus the ability to spend time with people you love and laugh with, which has become increasingly more difficult with our busy lives, was a real reward.

  • 5Q) You didn’t find the treasure box this trip. Are you still confident in your spot? Why or why not?

I’ll be back. Google maps tend to mask the enormity of the task at hand. Once you’re BOTG you realize that your search area is much bigger than first thought.

  • 6Q) Do you have any advice for someone else looking for treasure or is there something more you would like to say?

Our lesson learned for this year is, if you’re going BOTG have more than 1 solve you would like to investigate. You never know what obstacle may eliminate your solve, so have a backup option or two because you’re likely investing a significant amount of time on a trip, not to mention the money needed for those trips.
