Six Questions with Sacha Johnston:

1)When did you first hear and learn about the Treasure Hunt?

I first heard of the Fenn treasure in 2013, from one of his appearances on the Today Show. However, I was pregnant at the time, so I put it away in the back of my mind and didn’t remember it again until 2014.

2)What inspired you to become involved and begin searching?

In 2014, Forrest came out with Too Far to Walk, and the map inside. I looked at the map and poem, and was reminded of the scene from Goonies, where the young boys find the map in the attic, and one boy reads and translates it to the rest of the boys. I have been searching since that moment.

3)What is your most favorite part about the Treasure Hunt so far?

My favorite part about this treasure hunt are the people. I have been incredibly lucky to meet some very wonderful people. I met a few of my dearest friends – and my boyfriend – from this chase. The Chase Community is filled with wonderful people, such as yourself, Jenny. I am so lucky to have interacted with so many of them, and I hope to meet more of them in the future.

4)What is your least favorite part about the Treasure Hunt so far?

My least favorite part of the treasure hunt is that I can’t do it as often as I would like. Like most searchers, I have a job, 2 kids, and plenty of responsibilities. I would prefer to spend my time in the hills looking for treasure. I don’t think I will ever find a box of gold, but I have found so many treasures in my hunts that I don’t feel one minute of time was wasted.

5)What is the best or most unique thing you found while searching for Forrest Fenn’s treasure chest?

I have found some interesting things in my hunts. I have found both sides of a deer shed, horseshoes, and a mine claim from the 1950’s stuffed into an old tobacco tin. I have seen eagles fight in mid-air, and I have listened to the symphony that the frogs put on each evening. I have found more beauty than could be expressed in words.

6) What more would you like to say?

I think everyone should go looking for a hidden treasure, at least once. But, don’t worry about whether or not you find the gold. Instead, be on the lookout for all the treasures you will find along the way. You will return home richer and more full of life than when you left. Isn’t that what this is all about in the first place?

Thanks so much for your answers, Sacha.  Definite treasure can be found while in the Chase and you express that so well!  Thanks again! Just beautiful.

  1. Nice, Sacha.
You know something I just thought of recently is, even without the kinds of treasures you mentioned, just pick up a nice rock and build a rock garden. Paint a brief description of location and date on the bottom, and build that rock garden over the years.

  2. I agree with Jenny on answer #6. All of your answers are very well written and enjoyed them all. During my first couple of outings, I came back depressed but as they continued, your 6th answer fell into place and I have enjoyed everyone of them since.

    OH!
  3. You may find a box of gold. With as much effort as we are all putting into this, we would all deserve it. Baseball has always had intense rivalries but at the end of the season they are all just baseball players again. Win some, Lose most but they all come together in celebration of their sport. I feel like that sometimes. Not exactly relevant here, sorry. I see many of us are in this for all the same reasons. Thx Jenny and Well Done Sacha.

  4. I agree and good luck Sacha… one never knows when they are only feet away from a gold box. This reminds me of a quote I have on my door…
“There comes a time in every rightly-constructed boy’s life when he has a raging desire to go somewhere and dig for hidden treasure.”
    — Henry Kissinger

Best of luck to all those who still seek the thrill. Will you continue to search, or do you not have the will? 🙂

  5. As a mother it can be difficult to incorporate your own desire for adventure when you are trying to raise good kids. But it’s when you involve them and show them the little beauties of our world that they really grow. Good for you for investing it the mysteries of the world for your benefit, as well as theirs. Their Mom is a treasure hunter! Now how cool is that? And Jason was a bonus find as well.

Well done Sacha, and best of luck in your searching.
