Six Questions with Indiana Joanie:

1)When did you first hear and learn about the Treasure Hunt?

I first heard about Fenn’s infamous treasure hunt on St. Patrick’s Day, while I was at my favorite bar with my best friend, Heather. We were scrolling through media posts on Facebook and noticed an article about an eccentric millionaire who secreted away a treasure somewhere in the Rocky Mountains and the more we read, the more we became hooked.

2)What inspired you to become involved and begin searching?

After a few beers, we were convinced the chest was somewhere along the Montana border. I’m a major word-nerd, so I tend to notice things other people have a hard time identifying. For example, my first hunch, about “where warm waters halt,” led me straight to the blueprint in the poem. This is a huge hint, and I hope it will help a few imaginative searchers out there.

It helped diving into Fenn Forums, my favorite “go-to” forum is “Forrest Fenn’s Treasures Galore,” ran by, Janet Landgard. She actually inspired me to run my page- Seeking Wisdom with Forrest Fenn. I think both of our pages, really help break down the clues and allow other searchers to maximize their strengths in developing a good solve. Our goal is to get you with “BOTG,” and ready to explore your interpretation of the clues. I pretty much love to challenge myself and I thought, why not challenge myself with an impossible puzzle, and help others along the way.

3)What is your most favorite part about the Treasure Hunt so far?

Everything I have learned along the way while unlocking another possibility connected to the clues. Fenn wasn’t kidding when he said, ““The person who finds the treasure will have studied the poem over and over, and thought, and analyzed and moved with confidence. Nothing about it will be accidental”.” My boyfriend of 12 years, DJ, puts up with my insufferable rants and spontaneous trips and I love him all the more for it. The first solve we went out to investigate was “Soldierstone” and our 2nd and last solve will be in… well, I’ll keep my main solve a secret. The point is, I have looked into every possible option for that poem and in the end, I think it has finally paid off.

4)What is your least favorite part about the Treasure Hunt so far?

Honestly…the obsession. After I experienced my very first “boots on the ground” I couldn’t move on, and when I got the chance to talk to, the legend himself, (on the phone) I knew I could never give up the chase. I’m deep into this hunt and sadly my friends and family don’t share the same excitement, It’s okay though,- I’ll just dock them a few coins when I find it.

5)What is the best or most unique thing you found while searching for Forrest Fenn’s treasure chest?

Soldierstone. This is a special place that represents Forrest Fenn’s “ My War For Me” in living color. To give you an idea, Soldierstone consists of thousands of pounds of engraved granite nestled away in a meadow near the Continental Divide. The towering stone rectangle surrounded by 36 300 pound quote stones, each etched in French, Laotian, Thai, Vietnamese and Arabic among other languages. My favorite was the quote dedicated to a lonely French guy. My first ever BOTG led me to this place and in my heart, I have a feeling that Fenn is connected.

6) What more would you like to say?

I have so much to say. I can’t stop talking about this wonderful adventure. Fenn is an amazing human being and reminds me so much of my grandpa. I miss my grandpa a lot and I know if he was still around he would have already delivered the bracelet back to Fenn. I always thought of my grandpa as the smartest man, I think Mr. Fenn runs in at a close 2nd. I think maybe this is half of the reason I want to solve this thing so badly.

I have sent Mr. Fenn a few emails here and there… by few, I’d say 100+ but, he has been known to reply to some good ones about coffee dates and pimento cheese sandwiches. I guess the question I would like to ask him is – Has anyone ever mentioned to you the correct blueprint in the poem, and if so, where do you think they went wrong with BOTG while using the blueprint as a guide?

  1. By the way, Joanie, does your friend Heather go with you on searches?
Also, I was impressed with the story of “Soldierstone” up there on the grassy Mesa in the middle of nowhere. Something I’d like to see someday, if at all possible.

    1. The stones are scattered about the mesa. To be lost to the grasses and the trees sometime far down the road. As I understand it, the place was not initially advertised and was said that those that need to find it will. The place is at this time watched and cared for by some who truly feel it and have vowed to protect it. I think we found and photographed 34 stones. If you go tread softly, respect it and bring a hankie. Indulgence is not there in my opinion and it is separate fromand more powerful than the chase Indiana Joanie, would you agree with my last? g

      1. In my thought out and changed opinion. The pillow stones will always be cared for as long as there’s a someone around cuz therefor the pillar stone will tell them they are there to be shared not forgotten to the grass trees and air. g

        1. What about the stones for the forgotten kings lost in the woods right at home? I took a photo of one I found way out off the trails. I was just wandering when I came across a very similar series of stones. I can’t help but wonder who the highly revered individual was I was visiting. Possibly the leader of the Revolt, Pohé-yemo. Maybe it’s just a rock.

  2. You might be on to something. Very Nice! Thanks for sharing. I can relate in many ways. The one thing I’m enjoying is finding so many places on my own. So much I want to share but don’t believe all info should be so out in the open, believe that or not. I love when other people share things that are similar to some of mine. All in due time. Cheers Joanie
