The Golden Owl Found!
The Golden Owl Found! In 1993, the book, On the Trail of the Golden Owl, by Max Valetin and illustrated by Michel Becker, was published. It contained clues to a hidden Golden Owl counterpart (bronze owl) that could be switched for the real treasure – A Golden Owl, decorated with diamonds, valued near $250,000.
This was the longest running armchair treasure hunt in France. The search for the Golden Owl was in par with The Secret by Byron Preiss of the United States – which was published in 1982, and of which only 3 of the 12 buried treasures of The Secret have been found. Searchers continue, even after 40 years, to ponder the clues within that armchair treasure hunt. The latest of those buried treasures to be unearthed was in 2019.
On October 3, Michel Becker, now solely managing the Golden Owl Hunt after the passing of Max Valetin, announced the Golden Owl counterpart had been unearthed. It was posted on the community’s discord channel:
“We confirm that the Golden Owl countermark was unearthed last night, simultaneously with a solution upload to the online verification system. It is therefore useless to go digging on the location you assume to be the cache.
As previously announced, we are verifying the validity of the proposed solution.”
As of this time no information on the solution or the finder is known.
The hunt for the Golden Owl included 11 Riddles and Images. Over the last 30 years many of these cleverly spun riddles and clues in the images had been solved. Searchers were getting close – but yet the final key was missed.
Until recently.
Congrats to the finders.
