In the 2018 Six Questions with Forrest Fenn, he mentioned he had a gut feeling his treasure chest might be found in the summer. Some might ask, ‘What’s all inside the treasure chest?’ What is a searcher going to find?
Here are the five items a searcher will surely find inside Forrest Fenn’s Treasure Chest— whether it is found this year or over 100 years from now!
Watch on Video or read below:
1)Gold Coins
265 Gold Coins. Mostly American Eagles and American Double Eagles, but there are a few very early Middle Eastern gold coins and at least one Canadian gold coin included in the treasure chest as well.
2)Gold Relics
Hundreds of Gold Nuggets (two weigh more than a pound each)
Gold dust from the California gold rush
Mayan gold necklace (over 3,000 years old and from Forrest Fenn’s personal collection)
Gold nose rings
Two gold frogs (one is 3” in length)
Two pre-Columbian, hammered thin, approx.. 4” in diameter, gold mirrors (with hole for possibly wearing around neck)
3)Gemstones and other Artifacts
Silver bracelet with 22 turquoise beads (very special to Forrest (if chest is found before he passes, he would like the chance to buy it back)
Ancient Chinese human faces carved from Jade
Spanish 17th century gold ring with large emerald
Antique gold dragon coat bracelet with 254 rubies, 6 emeralds, 2 Ceylon sapphires, and many diamonds
Tairona and Sinu Indian necklace from Columbia with 39 animal fetishes carved from quartz crystal, carnelian, jadeite and other exotic stones. This necklace also holds two cast gold objects: a jaguar claw and frog.
A golden necklace with a turquoise disc bead (1325AD) discovered at the San Lazaro Pueblo and attached to a 1.75” gold nugget weighing over 2 troy ounces
4)Forrest Fenn’s Autobiography
20,000-word autobiography inside a small olive jar sealed by wax to protect it from moisture. (Link to Forrest describing that process on MW here: Q/A Archive (6/26/14))
5)Surprises?
The chest itself is a treasure. It is considered a Romanesque Lock Box made of bronze and dates to about 1150 AD. It’s value alone is about $20,000.
In MW Questions/Answers, Forrest mentioned there is a surprise for the finder inside the chest. Something he hasn’t ever told was in there. What might it be? What do you think?
All told the chest is to hold 20.2 troy pounds of gold and weighs 42 lbs. And no matter if we were told all of what was in the chest (but we weren’t), when we open it, it will still be such a surprise and a truly amazing and overwhelming sight! The history within is incredible.
It’s a treasure of a lifetime to find! How extraordinary we have the opportunity to discover it.
Best of luck with all that you seek! Always Treasure the Adventure!
Thank you Forrest fenn. I think that forrest’s intuition or gut feeling is probably pretty accurate . Forrest would have a feel for that kind of thing better than most and it is his Thrill of the chase ! His creation! Good luck and may there be color in everything you search for!!
What’s inside Forrest’s treasure chest? That’s easy! A heart of gold.
If I am lucky enough to be the finder, I will send his bracelet back at my own expense. IMO it is the least I can do.
What about the title? Ff says he gives you title so it must be in the chest if he is really thinking long term.
Fenn said he put a $100,000 IOU in the chest and then: “I think I took that IOU out, but I don’t remember whether I did or not. It’s in there in spirit.” He also took out “a packet of thousand and five hundred dollar bills.” for fear they might rot (per Preston).
Preston also said: “He had worked out a better way, he told me, to know when the treasure is discovered..). I think the surprise item must be worth at least $100,000. Maybe it’s the title for something too large to fit in the chest? A land deed? A rare artifact? It’s mysteries like this that really put the Thrill in the Chase!
I enjoyed the post, Jenny. What is the mystery item inside the treasure chest? I believe the possibilities are endless. I remember an audio interview I heard where Mr. Fenn stated, if he could, he would have put a Jaguar (vehicle) inside of it. He’s said there’s a part of him inside of it, which is a mystery in and of itself. I believe our knowledge of the gentleman can only be compared to the tip of an iceberg.
What he said was: “I couldn’t put a Porsche in the box, or I’d have done that.”
Thank you for your help and correction, randawg.
Yes, PDenver. The beauty of the full mystery often lies below the surface. It’s no place for the meek.
What lies above has a beauty of it own also. There are great and beautiful stories long forgotten only handed down through generations.
Xactly, oh the thrill of it all.
It’s amazing what Forrest has Done…and All the Heart and Soul He Poured into This.
Marvel Gaze.
Thank You, Jenny and Forrest.
I agree JC1117. Forrest has put a lot of heart in this! Amazing! More than we can fathom I imagine. I truly hope one day he will get all the credit he and his family deserve!
Thank you always Forrest and Jenny.
Thanks for the reminder Jenny and Mahlon. So many objects so little time. Mr. Fenn certainly has been wise spreading his educational gold dust around. I think his father would be pleased.
Well maybe if you had put a Porsche in it WE COULD FIND THE d@$? THING!!! At least we’d know it isn’t buried. It’s a 10″x10″x5″ box hidden/buried (maybe 3 feet deep) in the itty bitty Rocky Mountains. Why in the blazes does anybody think finding this is even possible? Me included? What was I thinking of?
Sorry for that unfortunate tirade. In the Chase, even Iceman can lose his cool. My aplogy to you Mr. Fenn.
Sorry Iceman, my “tsk tsk” comment was caught in moderation before your apology. 🙂
Hello Iceman. People like to dream they can be the one to understand the poem and find Mr. Fenn’s treasure chest. Without it, then I could understand the question of, “Why search?”
Dream away pdenver. It’s still out there.
Agreed, his father would probably say “ Hey Kid”.
I’m starting to think the odds of it landing in your front yard someday exceeds the chances you’ll find it. My frustrated opinion.
No, this needs a better ending than that.
I’m with you, Iceman.
I have wished for many years that a large chunk of meteorite would come crashing through the roof of my house…without anyone getting hurt of course. That would be such a wonderful problem to deal with. LOL!

And while I’m dreaming…I hope it’s a large pallasite metorite with not just green olivine crystals…but multicolored crystals never before seen in a pallasite.

That’d just be alright.
The only thing cooler would be Finding Forrest Fenn’s Treasure, IMO.
Iceman,
tsk tsk. It’s there.
So many, good ideas. The hangup is in the binding. g
Perseverance.
Iceman is reengaging sir. Star ting to recover from the shock of making a mistake.
ex peri ance.. no longer around it.. but in the thick of it.. right where he wants us
I’m only after the key to the castle.
Wow! You’re taking Miracle to the Max, Fallingrock.
Don’t go swimming for at least an hour after taking your Medicine.
It would take a Miracle…
…and have fun storming the castle!

As in the key to the chest, The Castle Of Love, isn’t it?
renard,
is your name an anagram for ‘read in mirror’?
Nice, but didn’t even think of that. How fitting. Actually, it’s a loose translation for “the fox in the mirror.”
I particularly liked the warm up.. the preparation.. the way ff brings the foal to the water.. and that’s not even the treasure box!.. after one drinks from the water.. and turns around to take another look at the path that they took to get there.. one realizes that The Castle of Love encompasses not just the water.. but the path as well (imho).
That’s pretty much where i’m at.. at first, i thought I had found the location.. and was disheartened that i had not.. but now, i’m at least proud that I think I found a pretty good chunk of ff’s trailhead.. so now.. time to blaze on!
Yes, the path to the meaning. I’m working on something to send in to Jenny that I think will hit home on that.
