Let’s hear more about Lady Liberty’s Treasure Hunt found treasure!
The search for treasure is on in Lady Liberty’s Treasure Hunt and Riley’s Treasure Chase by Michael O’Connell. With the first treasure found, the hunt has renewed interest. Lady Liberty’s treasure hunt was first released in December of 2024. Clues to find the hidden treasures valued at over $100,000 are inside a book (available on the hunt’s website or Amazon).
The treasure found was a bit of a surprise – it was not within either of the treasure chests shown in the book. It soon became realized that there are more than just those treasure caches hidden (shown below). There are more! I’ve since updated MW’s Hunt page to include comments from Michael about this new realization.
It seems there is ONE chest to find in the Riley’s Treasure Chase (which is for kids – ages 18 and under). However, there are more than one hidden cache to find in Lady Liberty’s treasure hunt. From Michael’s comments it seems he wanted to make the journey of discovery as exciting as possible – so while exploring the locations – it would be discovered treasures could be found at multiple places hinted to in the book. Treasures would be found while learning about the history of the United States – at not one location – but more! I think this is awesome!
Let’s chat with the finder – Murky Solution – of the first found treasure and who shared his discovery. I appreciate his willingness to answer the questions – even though there are more treasure out there to find!

- 1Q)Congrats on the find! There are many different treasure hunts – what did you find appealing about Lady Liberty that inspired you go in search of its hidden treasures?
Thank you! I was totally wrapped up in JCB’s TTI when I discovered LLTH. Being a New Englander (I live in CT), I was super excited to dive into it right away and get a break from all the AT trail maps and word search rabbit holes.
- 2Q) Were you following specific clues when you found the treasure (near the Eric Sloan Museum in Kent, CT) or were you searching a general location mentioned in the book?
Bit of a combination of both. After my first read-through, that particular location was #1 on my list, mainly because I only live about 1.5 hours away and I felt like it was reinforced by several clues in the book.
- 3Q) I can imagine your excitement when you found the treasure – please share how you felt. Were you certain you would find something when looking or did the find surprise you?
I had a hunch, but I was also completely prepared for failure. I had actually given up and started back for the car when I found it. I thought it was just a geocache at first. Then when I realized…my heart just about leapt out of my chest! It’s hard to put that feeling into words, but I am absolutely hooked now.
- 4Q) There are some amazing items in the treasure! Which is your favorite item? Can you share more about the treasure items found?
There’s a lot of nice gold and silver coins in there but my favorite part is actually the collection of twenty-five ordinary Morgan dollars. As a kid, I always dreamed of finding a cache of those with my metal detector. I checked under every oak tree in every old farm field I could find. There’s also some really cool artifacts, jewelry, and some fun pirate items included.
- 5Q) What are you enjoying most about the hunt? (besides the discovery of the treasure!)
The anticipation during each weekend drive (aka “The Thrill of the Chase!”), and the unexpected “finds” we discover…there’s a real sense of adventure to it all. Great memories are being created.
- 6Q) Would you have any advice to others involved in the hunt? What are your plans now?
You can armchair solve all you want, but it’s all about the boots-on-the-ground adventure with family and friends. Better hurry up though because I’m still on the hunt And watch out for ticks! They seem to be especially bad this year. Trust me when I tell you that Lyme Disease and Babesiosis are no fun…(both are unwanted souvenirs from prior adventures.)
