Jenny…I enjoyed your quote, but even more…your picture draws me in and I wonder what is just down that path and around that ‘corner’..
A very Happy Birthday Forrest…Hope you get whatever you wish for!
Happy Birthday Mr. Fenn,
I just can’t help thinking it was only 86 years ago today that you got your butt smacked for the first time. What a great combination, your parents I mean. So just do it, wear your finger necklace, and eat cake, lots of cake.
Astree,
the twelve link you provide I find interesting, but I have ventured into that site before and if I click on certain links inside twelve it likes to lock up my computer, that being said I have come to distrust the site.
Sorry about that, JL. It would take you to a page from 2011, where I posted that same link. ( I don’t understand every enigma of that site, I don’t recall it happening to me. Did you pay the ransom, lol? )
No I didn’t pay the ransom, I fought my way out twice. You would think i would learn my lesson after the first time. Guess I’m a slow learner, or just like mixin it up ever now and then.
It seems that you have a peculiar understanding, maybe you could work on that.
Best wishes on your 86th, Mr. Fenn. Did you know you’re an Iron-Horse (Chinese Horoscope) and Leo? Interesting combination of traits – not that anyone should actually buy into that hocus pocus stuff 🙂
That’s a great picture Jenny, and a lovely quote to live by everyday. Thanks. Happy Birthday Forrest =) 86 years WOW! Amazing. Thanks for the weekly words. They look kind of big today and that’s a lot of red 8-}.
Happy Birthday Sir. If we could divide you into fours, you’d be 21.5 years old. Just drinking age! Then we’d go and get all four of you drunk, to answer all our nagging questions! Then maybe we’d get some betters hint!!!!!! 🙂 God Bless & Stay Blessed,, OH.
it’s an artistic form of expression for example love letters can be written in red or it could express anger or possibly danger. Maybe he just ran out of black ink.
Could also mean someone is red hot on the trail of the chest…the smile could be a reference to a photo of a smiling person – taken close to the potential spot; a spot that has been searched but not yet written off.
Or, could be that person has written off that spot, but is smiling because s/he is one step closer, having eliminated an area.
Or, could be a twist to distract from the real hints…
Like sp many others, you have made me smile every day that I ponder the poem, and experience the “Thrill of the Chase” Thank you SOOOOOO much for the gift that you have given us all. I hope to be able to return your bracelet soon. If not me, I hope that someone will return it to you soon. HAPPY BIRTHDAY my friend. A FENN-atic JDA
I don’t know why this post reminds me F this funny nearby landmark called “Grandpa’s Cheese Barn” not funny cause they sell cheese but funny because of the AMOUNT of cheese some all the way from Green Bay. have to stop in there and pick you up a birthday wheel on my way home. Don’t worry about the summer heat I’ll send it out priority boxed. You can hold your breath if you like. HAPPY Bday F….rock on!
For your present next year Mr. Fenn I have requested a complete Solar eclipse in 365 days, that should arrive the day before your birthday so will not affect any party plans that might be made. I will call it Fenn’s eclipse. I am located in one of the best spots to view and you are invited to stay at my little abode and your lovely wife Peggy also. I promise to not mention the chase, we can sip ice cold tekilla and watch the sunset.
I’m always thankful to Jenny and Forrest and all the Searchers who ask questions but I’m wondering why this is Weekly Words. Doesn’t the Weekly Words usually come on Friday? Wouldn’t this be Surprise Words? Does this mean there will be no Weekly Words on Friday? Or is someone trying to shake us up and keep us guessing? Like butterfly is sometimes flutterby, Weekly Words on Monday and Surprise words on Friday? Or will there be two Weekly Words? Weird. Have a great day everyone.
My wife passed on some wisdom, from her father, to me. She told me that on your birthday, you should give a gift to someone else. The spirits look kindly upon that gesture… because one’s birthday is not special just because of what people have given to you… what makes it special, is what you have given to others (especially on that particular day).
That’s lovely Timberwolf and definitely sounds very wise. Every gesture, no matter how large or small, makes the world a better place for all of us. Thanks for sharing that =).
I should probably clarify that with “positive heartfelt gestures”. There are some gestures that should not be shared with others ever. Like negativity and hurtful gestures. I only pick up good vibes from Mr. Fenn, TTOTC, and you Timberwolf. Have a great day.
FF did say “put in” . Maybe, just maybe the path is made by nature and not man. “There will be no paddle up your creek” . If we couple that with ” Do not follow where the path may lead you, go instead of where there is no path and leave a trail.” Let us for a moment think about the possibility that instead of following a trail made by man we are walking in a shallow creek. Each step would “leave a trail”, would it not? Each step would disturb the bottom sediment and in effect leave a trail behind us.
I am not saying I am correct. I have been wrong just as many times as everyone else. I do however think that it might be something to think about.
Again my words above are not meant to offend. I can be very straight forward and if anything I have stated here has offended anyone It was not intentional.
GOD bless everyone involved with TTOTC and FF for providing it for all us us to enjoy.
John Boy
Now that the birthday wishes are over, I’ll write what this statement made me think of.
As a child we played the game jump-rope. As we jumped, the “turners of the rope” would say “Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge in the pot nine days old. Depending on what they called out, would be how fast the rope was turned. “Hot peas meant really fast, cold peas meant really slow……….oh the memories!”
Gosh, BW. Now you just brought me down Memory Lane. Oh the many songs I jumped rope with. Remember, “Johnny went over the ocean. Johnny went over the sea. Johnny broke the sugar bowl and blamed it on me. I told Ma. Ma told Pa. Johnny got a lickin’ with a ha, ha, ha. How many lickins did Johnny get?”? Then how many jumps you did before the rope tangled is how spankings he got. Those were the simpler days, BW. Thank you for bringing back one of them for me.
I just remembered something about “Peas porridge hot…”. When I was a child, rather than the song being jump roped to, it was a game friends played. Let me try to describe it. One would sit crossed leg/Indian-style/Crisscross Applesauce, etc. on the ground and the other person would do the same, but facing you. It’s a hands game. For each word in the song, you would do the hand gesture. Again, let me try to explain. Peas (your hands/arms are crossed in front of your chest), Porridge (hands placed on your lap), Hot (you and your friends hands come together/palms touching). The hand gestures repeats the pattern for each word of “Peas porridge hot, etc.” until you reach “9 days old” at the very end of the song and that’s when the hands touch each other 3 times, but they touch a bit harder. Not sure if kids play it this way or not. It’s been over ?? years since I did back home in New England.
Hello Chesney. I concur. Getting back to basics may be a breath of fresh air. Go outside and shoot some hoops, kick a ball or throw a Frisbee. Put some color on the cheeks and take a deep breath. We’re responsible. I think we know what to do. 🙂
pdenver
Take the phone away, make em hold their breath in the water and dive for the treasure? 🙂
Hello Chesney. Sounds like a good idea to me. Let them splash around and have some fun. 🙂

To whom is Forrest directing this comment? “Save your best smile until after you raise the lid.” f
Is someone that close, or is this just a general statement to all? I sure wish I knew the answer to
that.
Good luck to all searchers, and may the quote be directed to YOU ! ! ! TRY to STAY SAFE ALL

Gosh, you two have me giggling. Remind me not to play Poker with you. You’d have me laughing so hard, you’d try and take a peek at my cards. (Back to my straight face………”Try not to laugh, pdenver. Try not to laugh.”)
JDA… I see tat as a rhetorical question since nobody has proven they found the chest yet! Let’s just say, “I’m not scared, just humble and kind as always”. Maybe it is you?
Please allow me to add more to this, and what Mr. Fenn did. Money cannot buy you happiness, more time with loved ones here on earth, true love, and you sure can’t take it with you. To me, it is more about solving his puzzle… the gold is a bonus! 🙂 Saving my best smile “If” I find it!
Chesney, Just another Ridgeback, looking down from his perch, making sure the coast is clear of big cats so his Sweetie can dance down the trail with him. Then again, maybe your right, he’s just another fence jumper with a shaded composure. Since that picture the fence has been raised a few more feet and still can’t fence the two in.:)
Happy Birthday Forrest! Thanks always!
Beautiful quote, Jenny! Happy Birthday Forrest 🙂

Hello Strawshadow. According to TTOTC, I believe the birthday boy has received some pretty good spankings over the years. 🙂

Now he just needs a pinch to grow an inch! 😉
Happy Birthday Forrest.
Happy 86 Birthday, Mr. Fenn. May your wish come true.
Happy Birthday Mr. Fenn, and many more! Perhaps somebody will find your Treasure today, and send you a Belated gift of your bracelet back ! 🙂
It will look more like this! 😀 Thank you Sir! You are Outstanding, and Ms Kile, as well!

I’ll save my best smile for the lid, but here’s a sample for your birthday…Happy Birthday Forrest! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
If only I knew you when you were 13, Happy Birthday My Friend!
I think there would be water in my eyes but the smile would soon follow & would last for a lifetime.

“Save your best smile until after you raise the lid”
You raise the lid your best smile. OK now what? 🙂
Happy Birthday!
I usually rent from Enterprise, but I”ll give them a shot.
There’s a camera in the chest. 🙂
P.S. My mother wants to send you a message, She says “You are still a spring chicken, she was 90 on the 8th”
Thanks to everyone on Jenny’s site. You make my hour glass flow a little slower. f

I call your smile crow, and raise you two! 🙂
LONG LIVE FORREST FENN!!!

Happy Birthday Forrest! “save your best smile till after you raise the lid”….Kind of sounds like somebody is about to find it.
Happy Birthday, Forrest! Thanks for the big red letters that everyone can see!
The lid I see is already open. I haven’t got to the closed one yet. 🙂
what’s up with the red letters? multiple times used.
it’s an artistic form of expression for example love letters can be written in red or it could express anger or possibly danger. Maybe he just ran out of black ink.
Red…like fire… http://billingsgazette.com/news/local/firefighting-personnel-being-shifted-to-fight-fires-near-yellowstone-national/article_0d0911ed-1491-57ed-a3ec-86dc3a2f3dc5.html

Yikes…. you may actually be right.

I leave you with one of my favorite quotes from the movie Young Guns (by Billy the Kid):
“You see if you have 3 or 4 good pals, then you got yourself a tribe, and there ain’t nothing stronger than that.”
We (on Jenny’s website) are your pals. Keep sending us the goodies!

W.B. Yeats on hour glasses:

A YOUNG MAN. Why don’t your friends tell you where buried treasures
are?
ANOTHER. Why don’t they make you dream about treasures? If one
dreams three times, there is always treasure.
FOOL [holding out his hat]. Give me pennies! Give me pennies!
Wise,…no??? 🙂
Then there is the one who is aloof. Hey, E*, haven’t heard from you for quite a while. Can you send me an e-mail at astreeturover (at) yahoo.com ?

Thia one was a Special Weekly Words that Mr. Fenn threw us for his Birthday. That is my take, but could be “Way Off Base”. 🙂
Very nice of him to give us a gift of Special Weekly Words for HIS birthday.
Ramona,
I sent this in an email to Forrest last year:

I have 4 young granddaughters…8 months old through 7 years. This Grandma will teach them. 🙂
