When The Thrill of the Chase first came out in the Fall of 2010, all searchers had to go on to find Forrest Fenn’s Treasure was the Poem within his Book.  However, since then, Forrest has offered some more hints and advice on items about the search for his treasure chest.

So some of the questions searchers can ask now are ‘What has Forrest said about certain terms in the Poem; like Where Warm Waters Halt, Canyon Down, Home of Brown, or The Blaze?’

As MW believes, asking the right questions first, leads to finding the right answers.

The following looks at comments Forrest has said about Where Warm Waters Halt and The First Clue.

You can watch it on Video here (or read below):

Here are what we feel are the top ten comments:

1) The first clue in the poem is Where Warm Waters Halt. That’s the first clue.  If you can’t figure that clue out, you don’t have anything.  (From the New Zealand Radio Interview)

2)Those who solve the first clue are more than half way to the treasure, metaphorically speaking.    (Dal’s site: Scrapbook 166- 2 (167))

3)You should start with the first clue and follow the others consecutively to the treasure. Hints in the book are not that organized.f   (MW Questions with Forrest (2014))

4)Many searchers have thought that warm waters halt at a dam because water being released through flues near the bottom of the dam is much colder than water on the surface of the lake.  I have discussed around that subject with several people in the last few days and am concerned that not all searchers are aware of what has been said.  So to level the playing field to give everyone an equal chance I will say now that WWWH is not related to any dam.  (Dal’s site: Scrapbook 68: 2014)

5)If you don’t know where it is, go back to the first clue.f   (MW Random Words of Forrest)

6)The most common mistake that I see searchers make is that they underestimate the importance of the first clue. If you don’t have that one nailed down you might as well stay home and play Canasta.f    (MW Questions with Forrest (2014))

7)You have to start with the first clue and let it take you to the blaze.     (The Lure)

8)There are a few words in the poem that are not useful in finding the treasure Phil, but it is risky to discount any of them. You over simplify the clues. There are many places in the Rocky Mountains where warm waters halt, and nearly all of them are north of Santa Fe. Look at the big picture, there are no short cuts. F       (MW Questions with Forrest 2014)

9)You have to find out- you have to learn where the first clue is. They get progressively easier after you discover where the first clue is.     (A Beautiful World Interview)

10)I cannot tell you how many searchers have identified the first clue correctly, but certainly more than several. I cannot imagine anyone finding the treasure without first identifying the starting point, although many seem to be preoccupied with later clues. To me that’s just expensive folly. f         (MW Questions with Forrest 2015)

Those are the top ten comments by Forrest which helped us a lot.  I remember at the beginning of the hunt considering WWWH might refer to a dam and researching various dams.  Now, we can cross that off our lists of potential meanings.  Every bit helps!

Best of Luck with whatever you seek.  Always Treasure the Adventure!

  1. As with any undertaking you have to start if you want to get finished. Do not be afraid of taking on an arodouse task. Trail and error are the norm for my path will always be different than yours as yours is from mine. It’s all about the journey. Thank you ff for opening my mind to journeys I never even considered.

  2. Jenny,
Excellent collection of hints about the first clue. The only quote that I might add is, “My Thrill of the Chase book is enough to lead an average person to the treasure.”
This would seem to indicate that one or more hints in TTOTC would help a searcher identify the correct geographic location of the first clue. Thanks!
    Safe searching, everyone!

  3. Thanks jenny. I love your fenn Friday’s!
Up above after quote 2, you have a link to deals site…i haven’t clicked it, but I believe it’s incorrect. The quote you used is from Forrest gets mail from a middle school class. Pretty sure. Scrapbook 62 is where he said (paraphrased brief) bible verse, head pressures, foot pounds, etc..wont help get you closer…you need Google Earth, TTOTC and a good map.
    🙂
Please, correct me if I’m wrong…

      1. That is certainly a scary thought, four people having the first clue.. They are lacing up their Nike Airs and it will be off to the foot races soon. Which one will have the smile on their face will certainly be the dead giveaway. Funny thing is if four have the first right how do they know if they don’t have that Lil box of goodies in hand? I mean wasn’t it Forrest who said you won’t know till your done, I have to admit that makes a lot of sense to me. At that current rate of return my calculations is at least another 256 years until completion!

        1. Hello Crimsonblaze. Several have figured out the first clue, and there appears that there is at least one person whom may have figured out as many as four clues. The clues get easier once the first clue is discovered.

  4. Oh sorry PD I thought you were saying4 people had figured out the first clue..if my memory serves me correctly we have been stuck at four clues possibly solved for a long time.
Forest did say they get easier but had never said that the searchers would look at them any differently. In the end he said they will feel they have earned it and that a physical presence will be needed. I been cutting back on my meds and my heads pretty clear, so in those two statements I hear a lot of feeling and it’s not probiotics.
