notepadHi all. I wanted to take time to share a brief note.

Forrest has been told to back away from his computer for medical reasons. That means he will not be responding to very many emails in the future.

As many of you know, I received a list of ‘Weekly Words’ from Forrest a few months ago. I have many more to share and will continue to do this on every Friday.

Forrest has said he will continue to answer Questions or offer Words to me when he can, but not as regularly. (AND I should add, if I post Words NOT from the original list, I’ll state that within the post)

As of now though, and now that Forrest is 86, I think we should give him some space. He has earned it.

Best of luck with The Thrill of the Chase  and all that you seek.  And ALWAYS Treasure the Adventure! ~jenny

    1. After three plus years of studying his poem, I believe one thing Forrest tells us is that it was a great adventure for him to hide the treasure…. in addition to the creation of his magnum opus, the poem. Forrest has made an extremely rare and unique (albeit hidden) mark in this world with his puzzle. His regular interactions added another dimension to an already exciting challenge; that challenge remains as part of Forrest, for us, as he cuts back on his participation. He really has given so much of himself. I think his wit and deep humanity come across when he writes and speaks.

  1. Thank you for your post. I’m a newby and am actually in the airport heading out for my first and probably only search. I had emailed Forrest telling him that I appreciated his treasure hunt so much, because it kept me occupied while I was sick in bed for a month.

I pray you feel better Forrest !

  2. Through tears, this I write,
I owe it all to you, forrest fenn.
For my dreams I will fight,
Because you taught me to live again.

I will try to be less than selfish in my sorrow, as it is not just myself with tears, I am certain.
Please take care forrest. You are ALWAYS in my thoughts and prayers for good health and comfort. May peace be with you and your loved ones.
    PS: (uncontrollable selfish note):
PLEASE GET BETTER! 🙂 (the Chase wouldn’t be the same without you.)

      1. Sorry, my mind is in a daze and didn’t complete my thoughts. Hate to see someone’s health affecting them. I’ve always looked forward seeing if he posted something on the blogs. It was fun to see what was in his mind. What was he trying to tell us? So many times I’ve laughed in thought and with my thoughts trying to figure them out, as I’m sure many of you have. Gosh, how I hope this isn’t serious.

    1. I wasn’t going to cry…

But then I saw a rainbow
      Appear upon my screen

      Reflecting in the glow
With hints of blue and green

      Its beauty did intrigue me
And what had brought it here

I wiped my eyes to better see
And saw it was a tear…

      Take care Forrest

  3. Mr. Fenn, I also wanted to say that “I have also incorporated daily prayers for you and your family. Prayer, is a very powerful tool, I believe, in the world we live in. I also wanted to thank u for the chase, your story and the chase is what got me out again… As a child, I had a vivid imagination, and i created ”home made” toys, the chase brought that back for me, I wanted to tell you happy birthday last week , but I hesitated because of the ”back lash” and insults, and also other reasons… People hear on the chase, seem to be obsessed with me, so it seems, (things I say)… wonder why???? Anyway, your good deeds go unseen, I understand you very well, and others, too, thank you, thank you, you truly are a good man…..God bless you and your family, hopefully someday, I could show u something real special that I have for you to see. Take care

  4. Master Fenn –

    Take care thyself.

Flutterby when you can and don’t let those Biddies boss you around.

Keep your smile at your doorstep and the rainbow at your feet.

Wishing You the Best My Friend.

And don’t forget, The Chase will Always LIVE!

    Your Pal,
    Mike

  5. Mr. Fenn you should listen to the Doc I think. I think you’ve been burning that candle at both ends for a long time. Thank you for teaching me all that you have. Even great teachers need to take some time to go throw a bobber in the water and relax a bit. My mom always put a little sugar in my medicine to make it taste a little better.

    With love, Chad

  7. Thank you for the update Jenny.
I will be sending you well wishes and hope that you continue to be strong in mind, body, and spirit.
You are an amazing man that has offered hope to many, including me. Thanks for the chase and the endless adventures.
    Your pen pal, friend.

  8. Dear Mr Fenn,
You’ve offered us all so much with the Chase, and in my mind you’ve practically bared your soul in your book and poem – I feel I have rather come to know you. I hope you can rest, and save your strength for your family. Take care of yourself, other things will take care of themselves. Very best wishes to you and yours. If you must travel, go in peace, and know we will miss you over here.
    Much love,
    Mike W

  9. Forrest. You and your treasure hunt has kept me going through some difficult times. I know many others who feel this way too. Of course I learned so much about the west! And thank you for your suggestion to check out places! Thank you for your kind words. That helped me see through your wise eyes. I want you to know that I am now fascinated with geography! Something I disliked in school! Learning learning everyday. Well Goofy banned me! After years of contributing to the chase. So I guess we’ll I am pulling back now. Except I am searching again soon! I feel now more than ever I might have the location. That my friend would be a dream come true. Love and we’ll wishes to you my friend, Lou Lee Belle: Chased by Bears in Jellystone park And lived to tell the tale.

  10. Sad news, many tears. Take care of yourself Forrest and enjoy your family. Always in my prayers and thank you for sharing all that you have and awakening the trill of the chase in so many of us. Thank you Jenny for keeping us in the know.

  11. Forrest— If you’re cutting back you may not read this. But I really pray that all is well, and that your health improves. I am truly thankful that I heard about your poiem and the search. It has truly been an inspiration to me. I will most definitely keep you in my prayers.

  12. Hi Forrest,
Thank you for your writings and creating such an intriguing poem.
As a Boy Scout in the seventies I lost track of time while backpacking, fishing, canoeing in the Sierras.
This summer my family spent two weeks in Yellowstone and Glacier National Park. I found my treasure in my daughters face as she pulled in Brown trout on the Madison
    River.
As I was hiking the trails with my bear spray, sheath knife and walking stick, I truly felt like a kid again. Thank you again Forrest!
We will be praying for your rest and greatest health ahead.
    Best regards,

  13. Forrest, my family and I wish you well and thank you for this unique thrill of the chase. Keep writing down your memories, including your most recent ones. The chase has been a real education, and most of all, it gets one out to experience all that nature has to offer. Thank you! The best to you and your family.

  14. I think it would be a good thing that Forrest changes gears a little. His chase has become the catalyst for adventure for so many of us, creating priceless memories. Memories that would have never happened if not for him. I’m so thankful for that.
It has to be hard to deal with so many people in such a personal manner, it has to be tiring. I agree with the idea of him wetting a line from time-to-time. Resting on his laurels and grinning to himself. I just hope he keeps throwing a few grains of wisdom our way every once in a awhile. 😉

  15. A belated Birthday Wish!!
Before I formed thee in thy belly, I knew thee (Jeremiah 1;5)
unique as a fingerprint, none like any other, Our Father made thee
He placed a seal over your heart, like a seal over your arm; for love is
as strong as death, it’s jealousy unyielding as the grave; Its flashes are
flashes of (forrest) fire, The very flame of the Lord. Many waters cannot
quench love, Nor will rivers quench it; if a man were to give all his riches
of his house for love, it would utterly be despised (song of Solomon 8;6)
Thy path, thy walk, thou teaches many to walk uncharted territory, finding
precious gems, hidden deep inside of themselves.
Listen good, maybe thou art thy teacher, maybe thou art thy student
God’s riches never cease, and our path today continues onward bound to
the next level of infinity…. Happy belated birthday, Forrest, and may God continue to
bless you, yesterday, today, tomorrow, and forever more!!!

  16. Hello Mr Fenn,

i’m sorry to hear about your health and needing to pull away from The Chase. But happy to hear you are getting the rest and spending more time with family and loved ones. I know first hand, even in your 80’s, you are one tuff dude!

    Be well Mr Fenn,

    michael

  17. I’m sorry to say I wasn’t one of the lucky few who Mr. Fenn corresponded with, but I did enjoy forwarding short (I hope) updates on my progress. I imagine even those take their toll when everyone is doing it. All the best, sir, and hope we still hear from you on occasion.

  18. My Dearest Forest;
I have just returned from my eighth trip to Wyoming in search of your elusive Treasure. We did not find it, but we have not given up hope. We saw 3 Ewes and a young Rocky Mountain Sheep near our search site. Coming home we saw a beautiful Mountain Goat, cross over a guard rail, across the road behind us and scamper up a 45 degree hill. All sights I would not of seen had it not been for your Chase. Your dream to get folks out into the wilds of the Rockies has been fulfilled!

Take a break, bring back your health fueled by the hopes and prayers by thousands of well-wishers, including me. Said with a tear or two on my cheek.

Godspeed, and TRY to STAY SAFE and healthy

    A FENN-atic

  19. Best Wishes and Prayers Forrest,
I will not be so bold as to assume that you are like me – Hardheaded with rocks in my head(per my Mom)!!!
I am at a place now that is distinct from when I was younger.
Age has a way of mellowing the spirit but not the desire, until the health issues change the game!
Take care of Yourself My Friend,
    Best Regards,
Hope to Meet You One Day Soon When You Are Doing Better

  20. This isn’t good…at all. Please rest up, Forrest. When I’m tired and feeling down I try to sleep it off. That sometimes takes a few days…sometimes longer. I know it must be even harder at your age.

I, for one, appreciate all you’ve done. After all…this is Your Creation. Hang tough. I look forward to whatever words you can share with us.

(Psst…after Peggy is asleep. Shhh…did I type that out loud?) 🙂

    Thank You, Sir!

  21. My experience with 13 yr old sons tells me you are in a growth spurt. 13 hours of sleep per day and 33 cheeseburgers later, you’ll be an inch taller:-)

On a serious note my friend…take good care, rest, recharge your soul. We are here waiting for you and appreciate You!

  22. Thanks for the update Jenny and Mr. Fenn. So the decorated veteran who fought a war faster than the speed of sound, was a world class fly fishing guide as a boy, once slipped past the Iron Curtain to take Nicoli Fechin’s remains back to Russia, was stationed in Germany with nuclear missles strapped under his wings, achieved success as an art and antiquities dealer, travelled and explored the world as an amateur archeologist, hid a treasure chest in the mountains, and raised a great family: that guy wants to take a break from the treasure hunt. Sounds perfect. I take breaks from the Chase periodically. Very healthy. I always come back to it though. So fun. Please chime in when you feel like it Mr. Fenn. It’s is always great to hear from you.

    1. Bailey,
Forrest also helped keep together two different Clovis finds so that they can be studies as whole units rather than be separated.
And he himself found something that showed that ancient Native Americans were doing something long before previously known.

I’m reminded of the old movie ‘The Ghost And Mrs. Muir (worth seeing).
I wish our youth could catch this fire for life and worth.

  23. f,
It has been an absloute thrill chasing after the riches that are found while venturing out in nature. Here’s hoping for early snows in the Rockies so we ALL can take a break, stay warm & safe and enjoy looking forward to renewed searches in 2017. Thank you for not giving the box away as a door prize! 😀

  24. I don’t trust Dr’s. They are always wrong. They mean well, but sometimes the human body is like a treasure quest…where could the ailment be? Often, just like us searchers, as they are human, a Dr. Merely relies on educated guesses and process’ of elimination.
I look for age in a physician, then I’m not the guinea.
    That said,
Forrest, you know your body best. Be happy, and enjoy your time, however that may be. I know you don’t like laying in bed…neither do i!
Feel good, and know you are, and will always be loved by many!:-)
