The Fandango armchair treasure hunt ends on November 26, 2020, Thanksgiving Day, if the golden key worth $10,000 dollars is not found before that date. Will it be found? Can this puzzle be solved in time?
The armchair treasure hunt was released on June 29, 2007 in form of a book. The book can be purchased on the followthefox website or on Amazon, and contains clues, both visual and textual, that will lead a searcher to a golden key hidden somewhere on Mount Desert Island, Maine.
To date, no one has solved all the clues needed to find this elusive key.
Lots of discussion continues on the MW Forum, but the Master Riddle needed to find the Key has not been discovered to date.
What might it take to solve the puzzle?
In an early interview with Pel Stockwell (transcript on MW Forum), creator of the Fandango treasure hunt, he mentioned the following:
“There are multiple components so, and you may have already, you’ll come across different things, and by themselves they’re not going to reveal the treasure. But in conjunction with other components, they will.”
He also stated, when asked if there were smaller riddles to make the Master Riddle:
“Yes, oh yes. They are different components that all feed into the Master Riddle.”
So, what might these components be? And how are they put together to discover the location of the hidden treasure?
Some of the components might come from the following items:
- The Star Points and the words found with them
- The Phrases around the Image Borders
- The Border Letters (both Red and Blue)
- The Colored Signs
- The Number Squares
- Hidden Words and Numbers in Images
One question searchers ask themselves is if the Master Riddle comes together like the Master Riddle of Masquerade? Masquerade was a 1979 armchair treasure hunt which helped inspire the creation of Fandango. Masquerade’s riddle came together by following a process. Lines were drawn from inside the image to border letters, spelling out the Master Riddle:
– Catherines Long finger Over Shadows Earth Buried Yellow Amulet Midday Points The Hour In Light of Equinox Look you.
Is there a similar process to follow in Fandango to find its Master Riddle? Do the components hint to finding this process, or are they themselves pieces of Fandango’s Master Riddle?
These are some of the key questions, and it would seem the answers to these questions need found before the Golden Key can be found.

I have a dead on target solve for this hunt. I can’t go to it right now. I was on Twelve.org looking through the forum for evidence of other people who may have had the same solve and checked into it already…. For some reason, I cannot even register as a user on that website! It keeps asking me to log in when I click register…. I have to register before I can log in!!!! Can you check with them on if the site is messed up?
