UPDATE FROM NEWS IN POST: THE ORIGINAL CASQUE IS AGAIN IN PLAY. (At the start of the hunt the casque was buried. John Michaels retrieved it in fear it might be damaged. In its place is another buried container with Key, and with this Key, now it can be used to claim the prize AND the original casque…so all back on track!)
On March 6th, John Michaels, the main creator for the armchair treasure hunt, Tribute: Hunt for the 13th Casque, announced some changes on the Tribute’s hunt’s prize. Initially, an original casque from The Secret by Byron Priess was the ‘casque’ buried for the hunt. This casque from 1982’s hunt contained the key to claim the Tribute’s hunt’s gemstones. For many, it was this casque that was the real treasure.
However, this original casque has been replaced by a generic casque/container by John Michaels in the exact location the clues of the Tribute Hunt, once solved, will take you. The key inside this container can still be used to claim the gemstones of the treasure hunt.
While this change was unexpected, a surprise, and disappointing, it is what it is, in regards for the challenge to solve the clues of the Tribute Hunt. It is each searcher’s choice to continue the hunt or not.
MW truly appreciates the treasure hunting community here. As some of you know, those who have my book, Armchair Treasure Hunts, or read some of the posts here on the Beale Papers, know I hold strong the words written in those Beale Papers. They are:
“…Never sacrifice your own and your family’s interests to what may prove an illusion; but, as I have already said, when your day’s work is done, and you are comfortably seated by your good fire, a short time devoted to the subject can injure no one, and may bring its reward.”
If you follow those words, of basically an unsolved ‘armchair treasure hunt’ from 1885, you may get a reward….and if not, if things change, whatever the circumstance (right or wrong), you can move on happily (either with the same hunt, another, or none).
Best of luck with all that you seek! Always Treasure the Adventure!
If you’d rather not work on Tribute anymore, because of this unexpected change, check out others on MW……..

I am very sad how this turned out. I worked on this since the very beginning. One thing I know, this is no longer a tribute. After re-reading John Michael’s post, he also decided to keep the key as well. There is no key to turn in to get the gem. Without a key, how is this a tribute?!
