H. Charles Beil, aka the Treasure Man, is hiding treasure caches across the states! If you find one, it is yours to keep.

Below is a quick summary of the hidden treasure cache #10: The Rumrunners

If you read up on many of the Treasure Man hidden caches, you will notice clues for the valuable caches are often provided within a historical story or topic.  They also include a Skull Rating. This rating is not a rating for difficulty of solving, but for difficulty of location; as some of the Treasure Man caches are hidden in very remote areas and hold possible dangers of rough terrain or animals (rattlesnakes, bear, etc.).

But let’s get to Cache #10 treasure hunt summary:

The small town of Clayton, New York, is in the Thousand Islands region and is a popular tourist location near Alexandria Bay.  Although very quiet during the winter season, this whole thousand islands region, including Clayton, is booming during the late spring through early fall months with boaters and tourists. The Thousand Islands constitute an archipelago of 1,864 islands that straddles the Canada- US border in the Saint Lawrence River.

One of the main tourist attractions of this area is the Boldt Castle.  This 120 room mansion on Heart Island (one of the thousand islands) is accessible by tour boat from Clayton, Alexandria Bay, and a few other nearby locations (closed during winter). If up searching for the Rumrunner’s cache, be sure to have a visit!

Clues within the free PDF downloadable story for the Rumrunner’s cache seem to hint to the cache being hidden in the Clayton, New York area. This was likely confirmed on the Treasure Illustrated forum by H. Charles Beil (The Treasure Man himself) saying the following:

“If you know where this picture was taken then you’re in the general area of the Rumrunner Cache! If you get there stop at Bella’s for lunch….It’s fantastic!”

The above quote was in response to a searcher stating he felt he knew where a certain image was taken. Assumingly, the front picture of the PDF Booklet.  But the main clue here is the fact that Bella’s happens to be a nice restaurant located in Clayton, New York.  H. Charles Beil also mentioned going to the Antique Boat Museum on the forum, which is also in Clayton.

With the booklet making mention of Clayton, I suppose we can be assured the hidden cache is somewhere around Clayton, New York. Exactly where remains a mystery!

The booklet for the Rumrunner’s cache offers an interesting history on Rumrunners during the prohibition years between 1920 and 1933.  The term rum-running is commonly applied to the smuggling of alcohol over water, while bootlegging is applied to smuggling alcohol over land.

Details on how certain Rumrunners were so successful are found within the PDF. The history is quite fascinating.  Upon first read you might forget to look for clues to the hidden cache because it is a great story!

And at the end of the PDF is included a special recipe for a drink called the Rum Runner!

Are there clues in this recipe?  Some sort of code or something? I don’t know, but after having one of these Rum Runners, I’m sure I’d be able to find clues everywhere. They might not be correct, but it’s worth a try if ever I become stumped on determining exactly where this cache of the treasure man is stashed!

Cheers!
