Dave Colonna of American Treasure Podcast shares adventures in treasure hunting. One of the hunts he is featuring is There’s Treasure Inside. Dave will share conversations he has with Jon Collins-Black – the creator of There’s Treasure Inside. Like he mentions, getting to know the creator of a hunt can offer hints to how Jon thinks, how he may have created clues, things he wouldn’t have done, etc. Things that could offer insights to finding JCB treasure boxes – worth millions.
Let’s learn more about how they came about and what is to come!
Six Questions with Dave:
- 1Q) Congrats on the debut of your American Treasure Podcast! Nicely done. Was this a project you’ve wanted to create for a while? Have you worked on past treasure hunts or are recently beginning to explore them?
Thanks. Definitely a long time in the making.
So this was a project I worked out with Jon way back when he started the idea of the treasure hunt. I’m not particularly into treasure hunting, but I am very into creating podcasts. Which is why Jon asked me about it all those years ago. I have many other podcasts I have worked on.
Here’s a few others if you were interested:
When are we: a podcast about time travel movies
My life in stereo: a travel show about audio I record when I am in different parts of the world.
Dave & Giggles: a free form tall show on radiofreebrooklyn.net
As far as treasure hunting, I am getting into it now. Once I made the decision to make the podcast, like all journalists, I took a deep dive into the subject.
- 2Q) From your first episode we learn you followed along with Jon Collins-Black, creator of There’s Treasure Inside. What are we to expect in future podcasts on this million dollar treasure hunt? You mention there is more to come from Jon.
I hope the audience learns more about Jon. The interviews I have done with him are much more relaxed. With all treasure hunts getting to know the hider is a big part of it. With my podcast I hope the audience learns a little more about Jon in an environment you won’t get anywhere else.
As far as what to expect. Tune in and find out. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
- 3Q) How did you and Jon meet up? Can you share some of the background history on how the two of you first got to know each other and how you worked together? What are your personal thoughts on the hunt? Do you think any boxes will be found within the next year, or think it will be years before a box is found?
Jon and I met a long time ago. I can’t put a date on it but it was before 2016 probably.
A childhood friend moved out to California from New York and he became fast friends with him and when i visited I would hang out with him and slowly we became friends. I went to his wedding a few years ago and have gone on many adventures with him. Including his bachelor party of white water rafting. Where we almost drowned. Although Jon might not think it was that dramatic. I did.
- 4Q) Jon’s treasures inside the boxes are amazing! Have you seen any of the treasure items up close? Which is your favorite item? And are you looking for them too?
I have not seen them in person. But the recordings we did were with video and he has shown me them on video. Maybe one or two. Not all of them. As far as a favorite item I do not know all the items. And have only seen what the public has for the most part. So if I were gonna chose it would be based on little information. He has shown me some emeralds. Those were cool.
I believe I will go try to find the Appalachian trail box, as it is the closest to me in I believe. I do not have any idea where any of the boxes are and have only gotten the clues you have. So my guesses on where the boxes are might not even be as good of a guess as yours.
- 5Q) What do you enjoy most about treasure hunts? Do you research past legendary hunts or only armchair treasure hunts (the produced hunts)?
So within American Treasure I have interviewed other hunts and people associated with them. You will learn about how other people may have solved other hunts, or learn about a long lost treasure hunt. I have really enjoyed learning about treasure hunts in America and how they apply to Jon’s hunt.
- 6Q) What advice might you give to new searchers coming into the hobby of treasure hunting? What more would you like to say about your podcast?
Only advice I would give is be keenly aware of the terrain you’re searching in. First off, Jon is a smart guy. He made this fun I’m sure. So don’t get into trouble. Keep it fun. Keep it adventurous. And when you’re in the woods keep your head on a swivel and your eyes peeled for clues. I’m sure Jon has thought this through with precision.
As far as my podcast is concerned, I’m open to feedback. Have people contact me through this email if they have thoughts or ideas or they want to tell their story. I would love to incorporate people’s stories in this podcast. Every idea helps with the finding of these treasures and it brings a familiarity to everyone’s journey.
I hope you all listen and get a good idea of Jon, myself, and I hope this helps in your quest. Dave
