I said I would release a clue at the end of March to the Coded Special Words of Forrest Fenn which are in the back of my book, Armchair Treasure Hunts. The clue is below. As many know, the Special Words were given to me by Forrest to share with searchers. These words are encoded, however, of which Forrest knew I was going to do.
I’ve been asked many times, ‘Do you think they hold a clue to finding the treasure chest?’
My answer has been, ‘I think they are interesting. I believe the ‘Coded Special Words’ are helpful to those who have a final location and have either been there or are still planning to go. I don’t feel they will help someone ‘find that location’—but may help with finding the chest once this location is known and at that location.’
Are they needed? No. We all know Forrest has said only the poem is needed.
Forrest has also said,
“Life is a game of poker,
Happiness is the pot.
Fate deals you four cards and a joker,
And you play whether you like it or not”
And this leads to the First Clue for the Coded Special Words:
“March has ended and the jokers can go too
Play with a standard deck that is your clue
The first word is seen hidden and so is the fifth
The message revealed? The final location goes with”
For those not familiar with the Coded Special Words, discussions on the words can be found on the MW Forum, or you can learn more here: Questions and Answers on the Coded Words of Forrest Fenn

But I wish this wasn’t April fools day.
No Jokers, no fools?
Hello Buckeye Bob. When I look at the clue, I see different things, but please remember I am horrible about trying to decode things. For the first line, I see April 2, or 42. With the second line, I see the standard deck (Bicycle) has 54 cards (including jokers) but no jokers leads to 52, or the standard cards of 52 then subtract the two jokers leaving fifty. First and fifth words are hidden (possible anagram) maybe fifty-one. Then I laugh at myself to only confirm that I truly just don’t understand.
Hi pdenver. That’s pretty interesting but wouldn’t that answer be 43? Or maybe 32 if you look at it differently?
Somehow, I think there’s a lot more to this.
Oh, I see what you did there. lol, silly me.
Hello Buckeye Bob. I believe there is a lot more than the simple numbers, hence my inability to understand the decoding. I’m glad you understood how I got to where I did. Again, it only confirms the things which I do not know.
Jenny, has Mr. Fenn confirmed that your decoding of this first clue is correct? and do you know how many additional clues are in the entire coded message from Forrest? Thanks for this first clue.
Thank you for the first clue, Jenny. I’ve tried to understand how to solve the coded words, but to no avail. I commend those who can.
I went ahead and opened your book to page 52. The first thing that pops out at me is “31st “March” 2009. Then the following words ‘As twice it is shown hidden to prove the worth of this book.’ I went back to re-read and I noticed something that seems to correlate from your book to your interpretation of the Maranatha. AHHHHHH!!!! Thanks Jenny for twisting my brain another day.
