pirateDear Forrest,

Had you read about other treasure hunts and their different methods used to hide treasure before deciding to write a poem?ย  Is there a reason you chose to write a poem? ~j

Thanks Jenny. I have read only about treasures that were hidden by pirates, and I wish I could find one of those. I wrote the poem in my book because I needed an avenue where I could present clues and start searchers on the chase. I worked on it for a long time and am pleased that it did its job so well. f

  1. One of my favorites from Forrest: “There is an appropriate quote in the Duveen biography by Secrest: โ€œThey never knew that it was the chase they sought and not the quarry.โ€

And another from the TTOTC book: “Olga was at peace at last and I suspected she may be having green tea with her father. Time had taken them apart but it eventually brought them back together.”

    1. Thanks again, Jenny and Forrest. I like the dialogue between you two back on Feb. 4, 2013 during the original six questions.

I like Forrest quoting T.S. Eliot in response to the fifth question.

We shall not cease from our exploration
And at the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

  2. “…because I needed an avenue where I could present clues and start searchers on the chase…..”

So, the clues start, and some are presented, along an avenue??? Works well for me!!

Thanks Forrest, hope you kept a warm cap on this winter!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Good Luck to All!!

  3. DID: The past tense of DO…………….the chase is over folks.

Seems to me that someone got their hands on Mr Fenns’ treasure and now is in works with Forrest on how (or when) they want to let the masses know. If I was a betting man, Id say sometime after Forrest biography comes out.

Maybe this explains the lack of scrapbooks, Forrest not posting, maybe even Wolfs big story……………

    1. I think there are a lot of pieces being moved behind the scenes that plan folks like ourselves are blind to. I also believe that if the treasure has been found a “straight shooting” person would let everyone know and not feed off the attention/pride.

I think at this point in time with all the cryptic answers floating around, a good solid yes or no is what a honorable person should come forward with.

      Oh………………IMO

      1. I totally agree with you, Jason. Hey, I bet you’ve heard of this band…Kings of Leon. With a name like yours it would be hard to miss…I’d think. ๐Ÿ™‚ They write some heartfelt songs. I like them a lot. The band is 4 guys…3 brothers and 1 cousin…all by the last name of Followill. This is one of my favorite songs by them.

  4. I might be wrong and maybe an English person can correct me but I think the “it” in the last sentence may be the “avenue”/”book” not the poem. I.e. “I put the stray dog under the awning because I wanted to provide it shelter to get away from the snow. I think it did it’s job well.” just a thought to consider that’s less intimidating to digest than some alternatives ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. .
a curious effect, the same thing occurred to me as I read the “sinister” remark – the phrase “there was nothing sinister about” has been used by other puzzle related parties.

Another curious effect, I am pretty sure unintended – On my screen, the “is” and “si” of “sinister” and “assist” line up vertically, and “issi” means “dad” ( compared to “did” … not “dud” : ) ).

      Such is the chase.

    2. .
To double the remark about “nothing sinister” to “nothing left” “nothing remaining” looked interesting, but looks like a stretch.

However, the use of “sinister” as “left” and “The end is ever drawing nigh / near / left” piqued my ears a bit.

  5. I hope thats not the case, i really enjoy his scrapbooks.I’ve learned a lot from those..Also if you guys see a guy riding a moped with illinois plates through the rocky mountains who looks like he’s getting by just on adventure and whimsy honk and wave at me.

    1. Nate,

There are many who claim they would go quiettly, but no one would be able to resist the allure of the spotlight and the need to share the solution. Who ever finds this will have solved an incredible puzzle and the bragging rights are worth paying the taxes.

  6. I guess I just don’t see where, by what he said, that people think this means the chest has been found. — “The poem did a good job in offering 9 clues to assist those who search for the treasure, and it is still doing the same good job. f” …..Seems straightforward enough to me.

And if the treasure is ever found, I’m sure it will be found by one of us “big mouth bass”!!, …..so I doubt it will be kept too quiet. ๐Ÿ™‚ Besides, he’s already talked about and shown pictures of half the stuff in that chest, …..so, if you were going to sell any of it, besides the gold, how ya’ going to do that? …..Wait!! Don’t tell me. ๐Ÿ™‚ And, I mean, I myself would at least let him know and also return the bracelet, …..doesn’t mean anyone else needs to know who you are except for him. Right?

I’m just trying to figure out that third clue myself………., or wait, should I say first clue……….?? ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. First of all PW… the Poem is STILL doing the same good job. WHY? because it hasn’t been retrieved yet.

You’re trying to figure out the third clue? Then allow me to assist you in my unique way…

      Llamar Ranger Station.

In the interest of self preservation, that is all I can say.

    2. Hello, Project Why et al. I remember Forrest’s comment about the big mouth bass. That was funny. And I agree with you. If I was to find the treasure there would be very, very few people who would know about it before I told Forrest…which I would certainly do. Why not? If I found it what would I have to lose for hell’s sake? I mean…Heaven’s sake. I figure the fewer people that know about it the better when it’s first found. How and when and where and if Forrest would like to tell anybody would be completely up to him. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m a nice guy …and very easy to get along with. Now where DID you put that treasure again, Forrest? ๐Ÿ™‚ I won’t tell. I mean…I WILL tell! After I find it…of course. ๐Ÿ™‚

And, Iron Will, Llamar Ranger Station is a long way away from Carson National Forest. Oops! Now I’ve said too much! Where’s the delete on this keyboard? Maybe if I just press this butt
