What is Project Skydrop?
UPDATE: 10/2/24 THE PROJECT SKYDROP TREASURE HAS BEEN FOUND
Project Skydrop by Jason Rohrer is a hunt for a golden treasure (shown above – valued at around $25,000). It sits somewhere on the forest floor in the Northeast. In the wide open. The hunt is expected to last less than 21 days.
The person who finds the gold sculpture will also gain access to a Bitcoin wallet. The amount of the wallet is determined by participants. It is near $45,000 as of 9/26.
TOTAL TREASURE VALUE approaching $70,000 (9/26)
Project Skydrop started 9/19 and is to end by 10/10. Treasure found.
Where are the Clues for Project Skydrop?
There are two different types of clues being released to find the treasure. Public and Private.
Public Clues: The public clues involve a shrinking circle on a map of the area where the treasure is located. A new circle is released each morning at 9AM EST – on the hunt’s website – Project Skydrop. Each day the circle gets smaller, until finally, on day 21 it is less than a foot wide. Pinpointing the exact spot. The hunt is not expected to last that long.
Private Clues: – NOT TO BE SHARED – are sent to participants who joined the hunt by paying $20. Each day, according to when searchers signed up, an aerial view of the location is sent to them. Each clue gets higher and higher, revealing more of the landscape, helping to identify the location of the gold treasure. These clues will most likely identify the spot long before the shrinking circle on the map.
What is the Treasure?
The hunt is for a gold sculpture valued at over $25,000.
The treasure prize also includes a growing bounty. $10 for each participant is added into the pot. The more that join, the bigger this prize becomes. It’s been growing each day. You can see the current amount on the hunt’s website. The bounty will be given in Bitcoin.
How do I win Project Skydrop?
You find the gold sculpture – which is about the size of an ice cream cone. You must take a video of yourself doing so and upload that to YouTube with tag #projectskydrop.
To find the treasure you use the clues. You search inside the red circle – and if a paid participant, you use the aerial clues to help identify a more precise location to search within the red circle.

What are the facts on Project Skydrop?
It is hidden on public land
It will be a simple hike and not far from the road (From the Wired Article)
It will be found by October 10th – if not before.
Jason has said:
Safe for children if like to hike
The whole point of Project Skydrop is to get away from “cryptic clues” that need to be figured out. That’s why previous treasure hunts have kinda not worked very well.
If a random person finds it…. I’m guessing they will look it up and figure out WTF it is. ….. But that’s pretty much impossible. It is not right next to a trail, and people generally don’t go hiking deep into the woods. The woods is BIG.
It’s up to the winner to fulfill any and all tax obligations. We’re essentially losing our wallet recovery phrase (by leaving in the woods) and they are essentially finding it. We also lost the treasure itself in the woods, and someone else will find it.
Solve meaning: figure out where the aerial photograph was taken, and go there, and get the treasure.
Well, if there were extra clues, a smart person would have solved it already, and it would be over. Would that be fun or what? The winner would get a much smaller bounty, for starters.
