Who doesn’t love taking a walk on the beach? While that in itself could be considered a treasure, you should always keep your eye out for lost treasures that have been washed ashore by the waves. Below are Six Beaches to look for treasures. They are places where treasures are known to be found, and so there might be one waiting for you find! Enjoy!
1) Coin Beach, Delaware
The coastline north of the Indian River Inlet in Delaware is known for finding shipwrecked coins. It is appropriately nicknamed Coin Beach. Numerous ships needed to deliver goods along the inland ports back in the day. Thousands of ships did not arrive safely. They were caught up in the everchanging weather patterns and sank. The concentration of shipwrecks along the eastern coast is one of the highest in this area, and their lost treasures are often washed ashore, even yet today. Will you find one of these shipwrecked treasures?
2)Treasure Coast, Florida
Another location to look for Shipwrecked treasures is the Treasure Coast of Florida. This part of the Atlantic coast gets its name from the Spanish Fleet which was shipwrecked from a hurricane in 1715. Strolling on this beach, especially after stormy weather, might bring a reward. You never know when a piece of history from the fleet could come ashore. Over the years, coins and other artifacts have been found. Last February (2020), a metal detectorist discovered 22 silver coins believed from the fleet. Exciting treasure!
3)Rex Beach, Michigan
The treasures to find on Michigan beaches, one of which is Rex Beach, are Petoskey Stones. This is the state stone of Michigan. They are rocks of fossilized coral, that when polished, hold beautiful patterns of the now extinct coral. They are real lost treasures of the past to find. They get their name from the city, Petoskey, where they can also be found quite often.
4)Glass Beach, California
Other polished treasures to find are pieces of Sea or Beach Glass. One of the most popular locations to see these treasures is Glass Beach, California. This portion of beach is in a State Park, however, and so the sea glass is not to be taken. But strolls along other beaches will leave the same type of treasures for you to pick up and keep. The glass treasures are worn, smoothed, and rounded pieces of broken glass that the ocean waves have tumbled over the years.
5)Sanibel Island, Florida
Sanibel Island, on the Gulf side of Florida, is an excellent place to find sea shells. The island is part of a large area extending out into the Gulf of Mexico that acts like a shelf, collecting shells. These then wash ashore on the island beaches. One of the rarest treasures that can be found on Sanibel Beaches is a Junonia Shell. If you find one of these, along with the commonly finds of Sand Dollars and seashells, you can say you’ve had a bountiful and treasure filled day.
6)Block Island, Rhode Island
Each year, since 2012, beautiful Glass Orbs have been hidden on Block Island. These Floats are dated and numbered and can be found by anyone who takes a stroll on the beaches (above high tide mark) and within a foot of either side of the Greenway Trails. 550 Glass Floats were hidden this July, and not all of them have been registered to be found on the website. Might some of them still be out there?! Take a stroll, enjoy a day at the beach, and look for an orb…… That is treasure itself.
So from the coasts of New England to the coasts of California, treasures of all kinds can be found while taking a nice walk on the beach. Enjoy a relaxing stroll today!
