The Beacon Star: Armchair Treasure Hunt book

The Beacon Star is a mysterious book written by Randy Picshel.  It is said to hold the location of a ‘secret treasure’ for readers to find in the ‘real-world’. The prize is valued at over $5,000 dollars.

The 77 pages (printed version) are mysterious writings, and images, indeed!  On the back of the book might be a starting clue, however. It is written:

“What the hell is this strange book? It’s more than a short story about doors, if you look close enough you will find something extraordinary…”

What might someone find if they look ‘close enough’?

What readers will definitely find when opening the book is an intriguing story with three sections entitled:

*A Damsel in Distress

*A Piece of Cake

*The Golden Ratio

The Beacon Star treasure hunt really is a wonderful and fanciful story.  I think kids (and adults) who enjoyed Harry Potter will love it!   It takes readers into a magical realm filled with all types of characters.  Elves, ogres, gosns, fairies, wizards, dwarves, or from what I gathered from reading, basically any type of creature imaginable lives there.

Two of the most intriguing things about the story is not only the small, peaceful inn called The Beacon Star and its role in history of the land, but also a place called Sugar Hill.  Many a people would stay at the inn to travel to Sugar Hill for the day.  Sugar Hill is described as a long and low hill dotted with trees, but then…

“There were rows and rows of colorful doors that set the main pattern.  In between were smaller rows, then more chaotic smaller doors of every shape from round to jagged like a lightning bolt. Jamison [character in story] tried to take them all in, but there were thousands visible, and he could only imagine the pattern continued all the way around.”

These doors are visited by ‘Openers’, and contents either taken out or placed within.  It is said, ‘There is a pure type of magic in the hill, it absolutely protects all the doors.  Kings keep their treasures here, wizards keep their secrets, right down to brownies who sometimes keep a single acorn behind theirs.  An invasion of dragons can’t open a door if it wasn’t meant to be.  Some have been here centuries, and they added a few just last year.  It’s all a tricky business.”

As you can tell from just those few short clips, the story is an adventurous journey through a charming world filled with mystery and magic.

The book shares many a tale, but ends with a coded map and search for the source of magic surrounding the small town’s inn and hill.  I don’t want to spoil anything about it, so let’s just say it seems many clues to the discovery of the ‘real-world’ hidden treasure is weaved into these adventures, and others of the story.

There are also many images with obvious codes and puzzles that may need worked out and solved.

All and all, it is an awesome and fun book to read!

You can choose to just enjoy the tale, and ending of the book, or you might be curious enough to seek what was forgotten at the end!
