treasure game king's goldHave a night of plundering fun with family and friends, and decide who will become the richest pirate of the Caribbean. In the game King’s Gold by Blue Orange game company, players compete against each other in effort to collect the most gold coins. Whoever can gather the most by obtaining the best combinations of the roll of dice wins.

King’s Gold is a dice game for 2 to 6 players, ages 8 and up.  The introduction to the game offers the following scenario for players.  It states:

The Caribbean islands were once a lawless cove, run by merchant marines transporting stolen treasures.  When news reached the King that these pirates were amassing great riches, he ordered a cut of their loot.  Now it is your turn to be a pirate, and you must try to pillage ships and other pirates along the way.  How far will you go to deceive the greedy King and become the richest pirate on the coast and at sea?

The game is simple to learn, set up, and play.  Game time varies, though, as a game could end by one very exceptional roll of 5 Cannons.  A player who rolls this takes the whole pot of gold in the middle, ending the game, but will they win the game?  It depends.

The game begins with placing all Gold Coins in the center of the table, and with the player who rolls the most ‘Skulls’ on the dice going first. Each player then takes turns rolling the dice, up to 3 times, to achieve desirable combinations. These combinations determine what gold a player may collect or lose.

There are 5 pirate dice in the game featuring Cannons, Skulls, Coins, and Crossbones.  Upon each player’s turn, a player can choose to reroll or keep, any or none, of the dice rolled in effort to roll the desired outcomes.

The following are Six Combinations a player might strive for, and their actions:

1 Cannon and 1 Coin:  A player takes the amount of coin(s) shown on his coin roll (1,2, or 3) from the center, and also takes the same amount to pay the King.  To pay the King, a separate pile on the side is created.  This is the King’s Gold pile.

1 Skull and 1 Coin: Take the amount of coin(s) shown on the coin roll from any player

All Coins: Take ALL of the coins from the King’s Gold pile

All Skulls: Take ALL of the coins from any player

All Cannons: Take ALL of the coins from the center.  This ends the game.

3 Crossbones or No Combo: Add 3 of your coins to the King’s Gold as a penalty

The game ends when all coins from the center are depleted.  At this time, players count their gold coins.  The one with the most wins. It’s a game fast, furious, and fun!
