dictionaryForrest, You said you made two trips from your car to hide the treasure. Besides walking, did you use any other methods of transportation to get back and forth between the car and the hide? Thanks, Edgar

Edgar, your wording of the question prompts me to pause and wonder if I can answer it candidly, yet correctly. Were all the evidence truly known, and I answered in the positive, you might say I was prevaricating, by some definitions of the word. And if I answered in the negative, you may claim that I was quibbling. So I will stay quiet on that subject. Thanks for the question anyway. f

      1. 49 Dollers – Hey,…have you ever considered that Forrest,…by whatever mode of transportation,…traveled more than 8.25 miles (one round trip total distance to/from the Bronze Chest,…or two),…somewhere “north of Santa Fe” (in the Rocky Mountains,…to a special spot in a secret forest)?:

        http://dalneitzel.com/2013/03/01/tips-from-forrest/

        13. THE TREASURE IS MORE THAN 8.25 MILES NORTH OF SANTA FE.

        Forrest actually said this over on Richard Saunier’s blog: “The Treasure chest full of gold and precious jewels is more than 66,000 links north of Santa Fe.” and we know that a link is 1/100th of a chain and a chain is 66 feet. So:

        100 links = 1 chain
        66,000 links = 660 chains (66,000 ÷ 100)
        1 chain = 66 feet
        660 chains = 43560 feet (660 x 66) = 8.25 miles

  1. Can you imagine if Forrest had ever been captured in the jungle, …..they would have been driven crazy trying to interrogate him and he probably would have been let go out of sheer frustration. 🙂

    I think he is just having too much fun answering the questions, regardless if they are of any help and seeing our response. But we won’t ever let him go, will we!! Who’s doing the torturing though? 🙂

  2. Great Question! I was talking about that over on Dal’s. I wanted to ask Forrest about that, but did not think he really would answer that. I know he said not by a human trail. So do you think a bike or horse trail is a human trail? I think yes and no. And of course boats don’t make trails. But they do “Put In”. Right? So much to think about.

    1. JC1117…you made me smile thinking about the “say the secret word” on the 1950’s Groucho Marx quiz show “You Bet Your Life”.

      The toy duck with eyeglasses and a mustache comes down holding a $100 bill if the secret word is said by a contestant. Hmm….sometimes the show substituted a person or other object to carry the $100. Tesuque would look cute holding the money.

      I personally like BW’s word “pettifogging”….and just, like worrying about the exact 9 clues… it is easy to not see the “for(r)est for the trees”.

      1. Astree – And speaking of baristas,…and my strong belief in synchronicity,…the other one just came in to say that his sister,…who is expecting twins,…is in the hospital 3 weeks early for delivery today 4-4. I asked what the names would be for the two boys,…and he replied, “Forrest and Vincent”. No,…really. 🙂

  3. I think the answer is easier once we can have a logical solution, maybe there is two ways get to the hiding spot of the chest! Maybe the poem has you doing something that would make sense to change direction but Forrest maybe took a trail to get there. Forrest has made a comment about the chest not being near a human trail so I would assume that it’s off the trail but maybe in a valley along a trail. Just My opinion!

    1. 23kachinas – Two ways to get to he hiding spot that make a circle. Check.:

      “We shall not cease from exploration
      And the end of all our exploring
      Will be to arrive where we started
      And know the place for the first time.
      Through the unknown, remembered gate
      When the last of earth left to discover
      Is that which was the beginning;”

  5. I’ve tried to follow this code while searching ever since I read the story about Michael Kammerer on this blog, Scrapbook 84.

    “Code of the West” ten principles:

    1. Live each day with courage;
    2. Take pride in your work;
    3. Always finish what you start;
    4. Do what has to be done;
    5. Be tough, but fair;
    6. When you make a promise, keep it;
    7. Ride for the brand;
    8. Talk less and say more;
    9. Remember that some things aren’t for sale; and
    10. Know where to draw the line.

  6. I have a thought on the No paddle up your creek line and would like to know thoughts on it.
    In the chapter Surviving Myself Forrest talks about Skippy getting in trouble and Forrest would just wait for his turn at the paddle but June never had a turn because she did everything right. I am wondering if it’s possible that no paddle is refering to June
    Then take June and add up your creek…say it quickly enough and you get Juniper Creek

    1. Chris Q – How about the “no paddle up your creek” being a right turn? And maybe Forrest ran away to his secret spot,…when he knew he was going to get a paddling??? That would be “heavy loads and waters high” also. 🙂

    2. LOL!! Good, Chris Q!! At this very moment, you have 10,000 searchers trying to find a Juniper Creek, in one of the search states!! 🙂

      Seriously, that is exactly what may be needed to solve this thing. IMO, it is something that Forrest would do, and appreciate. Keep up that line of thinking!!!

      Good Luck to You!!! 🙂

          1. tsk, tsk…. Will, that language may be common place and acceptable on other blogs, but I don’t think Jenny appreciates it here. Can’t you respond in a more refined and educated manner?? Surely a genius has more dignity than to stoop to such??

            Jenny, I do apologize for even eliciting a response of that caliber!!

            Thanks again for this wonderful forum, Jenny!!

            1. LOL! I knew when I typed it…that you would use it against me! 😉 You are about as predictable as a Dr. Seuss storybook. 😛

              And it you are offended by the word HELL Jenny…I apologize and use my all knowing WIZARD POWERS to change it to HECK. 😀

              1. LOL!!
                Some people cannot be held accountable for their words and actions, can they willie?? Their ability to interact with others,on a societal level, is encoded in their genes. 🙂 … But we still enjoy seeing, and hearing, what you think you discover about Forrest and the hints and clues!!! 🙂 🙂

                Good Luck to You…..Iron Will

                1. I was up a frightening water way once in S.C. We were fishing and saw about a 15 feet Alligator floating on the top of the water. Was a scary thought that he could probably capsize our 12 feet flat bottom boat, so we let him get a good distance between us

                2. Iron Will – Speaking of potentially capsizing a boat,…and the line in The Poem, “Put in below the home of Brown”,…where I think “Put in” could refer to a boat or a trail head (to go up a frightening creek),…I give you Boat Mountain,…which is part of the “My Spot as the Garden of Eden” solve,…which I started to post over at TTOTC.com:

                3. Iron Will – From that “Noah” movie trailer:

                  Noah’s wife: Is this the end?

                  Noah: It’s the beginning. The beginning of everything.

                  http://www.bibleinfo.com/en/questions/what-was-noahs-wifes-name

                  There does not seem to be any passages in the Bible referring to Noah’s wife other than the account beginning in Genesis 7:7. It does not give her name, however, according to Jewish tradition her name is Naamah – the sister of Tubal-cain, a descendant of Cain, the son of Adam and Eve (see Genesis 4:22).
