forrest fenn treasure questionDear Mr. Fenn,

When you decided to go into business you chose to open an Art Gallery.ย  What business do you think you would choose today?ย ย  thanks- Lizzy

Lizzy,

I would choose art again, but with digital cameras and the internet today there is no need for a gallery. I would buy and sell a half-dozen paintings a year from my home, and fish the rest of the time. I always wanted to canoe around the edge of Hebgen Lake, all 65 miles of it, so maybe Iโ€™d do that also. f

  1. Forrest has talked about edges and circles and fishing all before. I have been in- the treasure is in New Mexico camp- but this makes me think it could be near Yellowstone. I might need to make a trip there in August. Thanks for the questions and answers.

  2. I’m not entirely sure Forrest Fenn would make money as a art dealer today.
    1) Trends have changed
    2) Style has changed
    3) More artist are making money selling art prints on their own
    4) Nobody is going to want a (fake) art piece with a forged signature

      1. I backtrack my comment a little bit, the “western” style paintings would probably still sell. A I like how Fenn realizes the art gallery is a thing of the past and people buy/sell original art online (all of mine have been bought this way).

        1. No not salt or ice lol… It’s a quartz rock that I found in a bucket of rocks I bought at an estate sale last weekend ๐Ÿ™‚ It was on my counter and I needed something to hold up my bracelet and it worked perfect! Still reasearching what it is…. It almost has part of the shape of a clovis except for all the missing pieces ๐Ÿ™‚ and even appears to have knapping marks… Or is just a big flake of quartz ๐Ÿ™‚

          1. What every type of quartz it ends up being, its beautiful. Very clear looking. Hang onto that one, or maybe even find a way to use pieces of it in your bracelet. My girlfriend has one that big she uses during meditation. She holds two of them up to her head between her eyes and ears to help her concentrate her energy.

    1. Wouldn’t that be awesome, Astree? What an amazing wealth of knowledge that would be to hang out with Forrest sometime…especially if you’re serious about opening a home/online art gallery. What a gift that would be. You can’t argue with success. He’d be the man to talk to…no doubt.

I didn’t know that Hebgen Lake was that big. I’d like to go there some day with a canoe. I can just imagine sliding across the water in (putting in)…perhaps…a nice Beaver Canoe…built by Canadian Omer Stringer. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hebgen Lake…Here I come! Which way am I going? Whichever way my canoe is pointing…or wherever the wind is blowing. LOL! It’s not always a choice is it! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I am listening Forrest! Sounds good! After running my own Gallery for almost two decades. Selling at home in my “Yoga Pants” or something sounds just fine, The rest of the time I will be looking for the treasure and fishing…..Thanks for the advice. Just kidding about the Yoga pants. I don’t have any, but I think it was Dal who liked them so much…..LOL

    Lou Lee Bear

    1. Hello, Lou Lee Belle. I totally agree with Dal. He has great taste in…uhhh…treasure hunts. LOL! How ’bout an “art gallery” on the Vegas Strip where all the sales-staff…minus staff…wear yoga pants.

On second thought…that's probably a bad idea. ๐Ÿ™‚

      Hey…Dal started it! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Forrest,
My son and I like to fish. We did not know how big Hebgen Lake is. We are planning another fishing trip and now that we know the dimensions of the lake it would help if you could direct us to a special fishing hole? Preferably, some place not too deep and not way out in the middle. I don’t swim so well. Joe

    1. 23kachinas,
      Sorry for the delayed reply..lol! N E way…
I was just looking at those, they are huge, and look like a blast. Funny thing, last year, while I was kicking rocks up a creek with no paddle, there she comes…
A little girl about 9, on a big Ole board, just gliding along with an entourage of kayaks in company. (Wonder if she was from India? ๐Ÿ™‚ )
Have to admit, I was jaw drop jealous at that moment. The location couldn’t have been more perfect. Beautiful canyon walls, soft flowing, whispering waters, temperature that called for no attention and no end.
I will always be there in my thoughts. Always.
As a matter of fact, I may just do the same…
But I’d have to win the lottery first. ๐Ÿ™‚
