thrill of the chase forrest fennDear Forrest,

You have said in the cold months to wait for the snow to melt and the mud to dry. Considering much of the Rockies are subject to random and frequent bouts of precipitation, when is the mud ever dry? ~Thanks, I’m Inohury

Ha, elementary question my dear Inohury.

A friend’s six year-old daughter told me that mud can never dry because if it did it wouldn’t be mud anymore.

Please don’t ask me to argue the point. f

  1. Kids have the best logic. It’s simple and goes straight to the heart of the matter. It’s easy to see why Forrest said to ask one. 🙂

Just recently I was driving with my wife and 2 (of 3) kids. My 4-year-old daughter said, “Dad is getting more and more gray hairs on his head. He could die any minute”. 🙂

She had no idea that what she said was “funny”. She was just merely stating the truth as she saw it.

And after all…her simple realization commands solemn reflection.

Laugh or cry, man. Laugh or cry.

Thanks again, Forrest and Jenny and…Inohury?

Sorry. I don’t mean to be disrespectful.

    Thanks, Inohury.

    1. Agree Diggin. We need a mud wrestling event. Searchers vs Fenn, then maybe we can wrassle some real answers out o him. But then not everyone plays nice and it’s liable to turn into mud slinging. On second thought I’ll stick with the Weekly Words maybe we’re just all stuck in the mud. I don’t know but if I get mud on face, I’m going to just enjoy the free mud facial. Okay too much talk about mud now. Who wants to make mud pies?

    2. Hi Diggin, Who cares about mud? Well, I do and always have. For me without much balance and physical abilities, mud can act like quicksand and take me in and not let go. It is like some slick creature that grabs my boots and pulls me in – deeper and deeper.

  2. Thanks Jenny and Forrest. Argue has a root word of chatter. And point root word means prick. I know there is a term in geology called chatter marks. They where made when glaciers started to recede and left chatter marks in the rocks. Usually at the end of glaciers or terminal moraines. Hmmm, very interesting.

  3. From the mouth,s of babe,s.
My most embarrassing moment was when my in-laws invited us over for dinner and while at the dinner table my five year old just blurted out,” grandma, you look like a cow”. Got us all by surprise. I just wanted to die. In the next month all the skin hanging under her chin was gone. Tuck at its best. 🙂
Thanks Forrest for another Friday gathering.

  4. Mr Fenn & Jenny, thank you. Your Friday remarks are a welcome reminder of continued interest in-all-who actively follow ttotc. I’m typically clueless about intended meanings here and appreciate others comments too. Let’s hope the mud clears, and rivers are fishable soon. When you were a teenager Mr. Fenn, would you have been guiding by this time in June? Such a wonderful family history filled with memories which have inspired so many others to make their own memories.

  5. Early 50’s and the family is off to see some of the beautiful wonders in Seattle, Washington in our brand new Plymouth. Sweet!

After a few hours, this little one, (me), asks: ” Dad where are we going?” “Well, dear, we’re going to Seattle!” I thought about it for a bit and then replied: “Well, Dad I sure do hope Attle’s home after all this.”

  6. Forrest called a searcher with a question on weekly words a couple months back Madam. Now he calls Inohurry dear. Yet he doesn’t know if the searchers are a man or woman. Why does he use the terms dear and madam? Interesting also is that the root word for mud is mudd as in the Mother of Vinegar. Mother, very interesting indeed??? Hmmmm

    1. Hello Mindy. It is true, there is no “r.” When one listens, they’ll hear “noir,” meaning black in French. Also, did you notice in the name and in Mr. Fenn’s response, there are other missing letters? There are no “I, M, and N.” In this post, “elementary” caught my eye. Still trying to figure out “point.” Perhaps a direction or peak? In Spanish, Negra means black. I don’t know if there are many Spanish names in the four states, but I would assume there are many in New Mexico. One I found is Sierra Negra. Is this a good spot to check? I have no idea. I really don’t know much of New Mexico.

          1. Chesney and Inde…barring life’s obstacles, I can only guess the finder will move forward when they can or, who knows, even ASAP.

As for any other concerns…as in life…it is all in how we choose to live our lives…if with honestly, respect and humility, etc. then, that will have an effect on how others react sometimes.

            1. Not in a hurry could mean that it is recognized that it takes time (after all I thought the chest is not in a hurry). To solve is one thing; to retrieve could be another. Perhaps others’ reactions could be interfering. Everything it good time. The solution might require patience. Besides, things that take work usually take time, too.

      1. I guarantee you Sir, that Indulgence was not left in “Plain Sight”! There is a reason that Mr. Fenn says he views his poem as a challenge. The person who finds it is going to work for it, indeed! Not to mention, be in a very awkward and uncomfotable situation they have not been in before , to claim it. All is in my humble opinion, and with all due respect, Sir! It is Hidden Well!!!

  8. Thanks Jenny
    Thanks inohury
I have found sometimes in life the hardest questions to ask, are the ones you already have the answers for.
    Sincere apologies
    I hope they are excepted.
I miss the boiled water from the creek.
I was born 100 years to late.
    Please don’t argue that fact.
If I was born before they invented superglue I would be happy with that.

  9. I just love these weekly words, and everyone’s comments! I thought I had made a comment the other day, but I guess it didn’t go through. My thought was that if you’re going to be waiting for the mud to dry, you’ll be waiting a very long time! Plan accordingly.
Can’t wait for my vacation! 🙂
