Firehole River GrassesMr. Fenn,

You pride yourself on doing things that some people think are crazy. Can you give us an example of something you did different from the norm? ~Sarah Jones

.

Sure I can Sarah Jones. And you are right. I have never enjoyed doing something a certain way just because it was traditional. Unfortunately, some of my ideas fall flat in my face, but at least I’m trying.

But in my book Too Far to Walk I tell a story about when I was a young teenager bathing in the Firehole River in Yellowstone. I pulled some of the beautiful under water green grasses to use as a wash cloth. So under a photo of my daughter in the book, I put a link, www.vimeo.com/72073799. When the reader types that link in Google they are taken to a video of the actual flowing grasses in the same spot where I used to bathe. I thought that was a good idea because it took the reader there in real time. Maybe others had done something similar in their books, but I don’t remember seeing it.f

  1. The video does just that…..beautiful….great idea and great encouragement to travel the road less traveled….

    Thanks Forrest…

Chasing after ‘treasures’ is sometimes frowned upon……lol…..but I wouldn’t journey along any other path…..what about you all?

  2. Jenny, I couldn’t help but click on that link. It brought back so many nice memories. I remember one time I was standing in the soft gravels adjacent to those green grasses and a big grizzly walked up to within about 20′ of me. I ducked down so only my eyes and nose were sticking out of the water. We stared at each other for what seemed like a long time. Then he just turned and wandered away. Nature is so awesome. f

  3. In the Rocky Mountains, nature abides on a magnificent scale. It’s the narrow focus details like the flowing stream grasses Forrest highlights that make personal memories for children and remind adults to slow down and appreciate both great and small. Thank you Forrest!

  4. If you are lucky while hanging out on the Firehole at Ojo Cliente in the evening, after the others have left, the river turns into a winding ribbon of opalescent blue cutting through the grassland stillness. a jagged background of purple mountains rise to meet a swirling orange and blue sky. The sound is of trout water in a hurry to get somewhere and flights of honking geese headed to Yellowstone Lake for a good nights rest. It’s a peaceful time when you get to witness what has been going on in that spot for millennia yet probably witnessed by more buffalo than humans. A person can feel special there.

  5. Forrest – As you probably know,…I have been (hopefully, temporarily) banned from Dal’s blog,…so I have found ways of “doing it different”,…like when I introduce discussions about items over there on Dal’s,…on Mike’s TTOTC blog,…or here on Jenny’s blog. I just HAD to be a part of the Forrest as Poem Architect discussion (I hope you don’t mind, Jenny!):

When you replied to Dal with the word, “colloquially”,…did you perhaps mean like, The Wright Brothers vis a vis Frank Lloyd Wright (the OTHER Wright brother)?:

    http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Wright_Brothers

Note: that is NOT a Wikipedia link!!!

  6. Forrest – Let’s see,…”The Matrix” movie came out in 1999,…maybe your “colloquially” reference was pointing to The Architect?:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Architect_(The_Matrix
(Note: Sometimes a Wikipedia link is just the best content to use!)

    Neo: Why am I here?
The Architect: Your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the matrix. You are the eventuality of an anomaly, which despite my sincerest efforts I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden assiduously avoided, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led you, inexorably, here.
Neo: You haven’t answered my question.
The Architect: Quite right. Interesting. That was quicker than the others.

  7. Forrest – OK,…now Dal is trying to illustrate that 15 year time period,…that it took you to “Architect” the Poem,…by comparing it to the building of HIS own house:

Personally,…I think it was more like Sarah Winchester building HER house:

    http://www.winchestermysteryhouse.com/thehouse.cfm

In any case, for nearly thirty-eight years, the round-the-clock sawing, sanding, and hammering at the Winchester Mystery House™ never ceased – not even on weekends or holidays. It was never a rush job. Mrs. Winchester had all the time in the world – at least, all the time needed to maintain a steady pace. With her financial freedom, she was content to honor whatever whims came from her imagination and from the spirits she believed were guiding her.

  8. Forrest – I know you like all things Egyptian,…so I wondered, previously,…if that “Architect”,…who might have written the Poem,…is the Architect of the Solar System?:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rosicrucian_Cosmo-Conception#The_Rosicrucian_conception_of_God_and_the_scheme_of_evolution

The Rosicrucians teach that the above referred seven Worlds belong to the lowest of the seven “Cosmic Planes”. The Worlds and Cosmic Planes are not one above another in space, but the seven Cosmic Planes inter-penetrate each other and all the seven Worlds. They are states of spirit-matter, permeating one another, so that God and the other great Beings pervade every part of their own realms and realms of greater density than their own, including our world: “in Him we live and move and have our being”. Proceeding from the physical world to the inner worlds, God – the “Architect of the Solar System”, the Source and goal of human existence – is found in the highest division of the seventh Cosmic Plane: this is His World. In order to trace the origin of the Architect of the Solar System, one must pass to the highest of the seven Cosmic Planes: the “Realm of the Supreme Being”, Who emanated from “The Absolute”. The Absolute is beyond comprehension and, as manifestation implies limitation, He may be best described as “Boundless Being”: the “Root of Existence”.

I think the Freemasons have a similar Architect, too.

        1. Well E*, Frank Lloyd Wright was a wonderful architect but the article iis a real piece of work. Is there any validity to it, or purely figtissues// strike that, I meant fictitious. Don’t have time to research this week, as doctors appointments and business taxes & housework prevail.
