Forrest fenn gold medallion treasure hunt stone
Congrats to Andy C.

Breaking News! We have another exciting and successful ending! The second of the Forrest Fenn Gold Medallion Treasure Hunts has been solved!

Congrats to Andy C. of Connecticut!!

Late last night he found the FFGM Treasure Hunt Stone in Bear Mountain State Park, New York!

MW received the needed information along with the following note from Andy C.

Thanks for doing these treasure hunts, trying to solve the riddles really brings my family together.”

Exactly the reason Dal and I are doing these.  Thank you all for joining in these adventures with us!  Again we couldn’t have asked for a better ending!  (Andy’s own account of how he solved the hunt follows:)

From Andy C:

I worked on the clues with my wife, my two sisters, and their husbands.  We were texting each other all day with ideas.  We did not figure out what the blue letters meant, but my brother-in-law guessed that the numbers represented letters, which gave us FL and NY (Florida, NY).  From there, I searched for NY State Parks to see if there were any “mountain” references in any of the names.  The first one I noticed in that area was Bear Mountain State Park.  I zoomed in on the map, and recognized the shape of the road almost immediately.

Many of the other clues then confirmed that this was the right place.  The neighboring town of Doodletown (doodle of a town) and waters plenty (Seven Lakes Drive) were the big ones.  The fact that the Appalachian Trail passes through pretty close to the location certainly helped confirm it as well.  Then I used google street view, and you can actually see the tree with two Vs in it.  Two hours later, I was chipping away at the frozen moss and dirt covering the stone.

Thanks again, it was a lot of fun.

Andy

MW’s explanation– which is the same..lol…

The FFGM Treasure Hunt #2 was solved with a simple Rebus like clue, and then following the map to the location of the hidden stone.  The poem confirmed the location.

We all love Forrest’s Doodles!  They are on the back of the Medallion.  The ‘doodle’ like images suggested ‘doodle’.  And then we have a town, which gave DOODLETOWN.    IT IS a DOODLE- TOWN.

Googling Doodletown would then reveal it’s a location in Bear Mountain State Park.

1425 revealed NY (N is 14th letter in the alphabet, Y, 25th.   612 gave FL, hinting to Florida.  There is a Florida, New York near Bear Mountain State Park.

Besides the map being able to match the online map perfectly, and showing Doodletown below it, clues in the poem confirmed the location as well. They are as follows:

You needed to know which Mountain:  Bear Mountain

Stone hidden above Doodletown, as shown on the map

Stone was found just off of Seven Lakes Drive (waters plenty)

Birds fly low- besides having a bird sanctuary (Iona Island), Bear Mountain is where the lowest elevation section of the Appalachian Trail passes.

There are many hiking trails, museum and zoo (things on show).  Also a Skating rink and merry go around. (clues all around)

Anyone thinking ‘it’s a ‘DoodleTown’ would have been able to connect the hints and follow the map to the Tree (next to the road), and find the stone under the moss, where X marked the spot.

Just like Andy C. did!

A huge congrats again to him!  He will receive one of the limited and exclusive Forrest Fenn Gold Medallions and has earned it well!   He went out in the dark of night to retrieve the stone!  How AWESOME and BRAVE in the WOOD!

It’s so exciting!

Dal and I are so happy the Forrest Fenn Gold Medallions are being claimed!  It makes this winter time lull so much fun!

The next FFGM Treasure Hunt, #3, will be posted on Dal’s site in February!

The FFGM Treasure Hunt #2 Clues:  NOW SOLVED! 🙂

The blue letter clues I’m not revealing, as they weren’t used to find the stone and I might want to use them again… thanks for understanding.
